anxiety

Since having MS I seem to suffer from anxiety and don't function well in stressful situations anymore. I used to!!! Is there caused by damage/lesions?
Thanks

do you think that's because of your MS? I was always confident. Now I get stressed very easily and over worry, very odd!!!!

Mine are anything that changes.  If the weather changes before I go to see the neurologist (a LONG trip), I start fretting.  If I have to go a different route, or someplace new where there is a lot of traffic, I go into full bloom of anxiety!

Technically lesions can be located in the areas of the brain that effect emotion, researchers are actually looking specifically into conditions like bipolar, Alzheimer's etc and brain lesions. The connection of brain lesion damage and psychological and personality changes is already there but little is really understood in general about what actually causes psychological issues.

With chronic medical conditions like MS, more is becoming known about the psychological issues but from what i understand causation is not always lesion damage but can be from medications, sleep issues, prolonged pain etc So not specifically always from a specific lesion or lesions but due to a co-morbid situation creating a domino effect on your mental health.

Sometimes the most important aspect of mental health is actually understanding what your triggers are, think about it, is it all mental or is there a physical aspect going on too? If so, does improving the physical issues you have ever improve your emotional reactions to stressful situations?

I'm thinking food for thought........I actually know a couple of Autistic kids that express their emotional distress with smiles and laughter, people just think they are emotionally ok but they are the exact opposite, same deal as negative expressions of emotion and with Autism the key is always the big picture, identifying and reducing the triggers, so I do think its probably worth thinking if you have something that is making things even harder emotionally than normal......maybe?

Cheers.........JJ
