Winter cheer

For several years now I have been treating myself to flowers a couple of times a month during the dark winter days. Not Valentines fancy stuff, just from my (very good) supermarket. It's amazing how cheery this can be. Daffodils are my ultimate fave, but I just love the blue-purple irises as well, plus a bunch of others, including lilies.

These average out to a few dollars a week, which fortunately for me I can afford. For those who can't, try investing in one or two great magazines, especially gardening ones, and keep the pictures front and center where you can see them.

Flowers are not only lovely to look at now, but hold the promise of a beautiful spring and summer to come. A great investment for me, and I hope for you too.

Happy Valentines Day to everyone.  I truly hope that everyone enjoys the day with someone special.   Live life to the fullest and I think we need to pampered ourself everyday.  Why, not right?

Love is in the air and its so nice to know that we have those special someone who stands by us no matter what.

I look at love like a flower it just keeps blooming. And it doesn't matter how long u have been together.

Take care.......  We can't forget to say I'm thankful for you even though we may have ups and down.  Because in the end that's what life about love.

God bless guys,  take it easy and relax, relax, relax....

What a great idea, Ess.  You do know how to encourage us to pamper ourselves.

Here's my tip of the day - for those tulips that always droop too soon, put a couple copper pennies in the water in the vase and the stems remain rigid.  Seriously, give it a try - it works every time!

Hey Ess,

Winter cheer got my attention because here I am, already sitting in my bikini at 10am in the morning lol oh and Valetines Day is today for me. I'm a flowers girl through and through, I use to enjoy going to the fruit and veggi shop because they had the most glorious bunches of flowers, I never could walk away with out somthing to fill my vase.

A couple of years ago someone bought me a magazine subscription, and every month i so enjoyed the surprise when it came. That became my bubble bath, champaine and jazz indulgence every month, my blissful treat, and it was heavenly!

Cheers..............JJ

I agree, Ess, flowers are great at lifting one's mood.  We've had tulips in the supermarket for the past few weeks and I get a few bunches now and then.  A friend from the east coast visited me this past weekend; I  put some purple tulips in his room to match the decor and he loved them.
In the months after I was first dx'ed and not only to ill to work but unable to drive due to my double vision, I hardly left the house.  My husband did all the grocery shopping.  Every week he picked up flowers, not fancy Valentine's type stuff to be romantic, just tulips, irises, gerberas, etc. to cheer me up, and I appreciated the thought as much as the flowers themselves.

You have the same kind of logic I do!   In addition, I usually add a flowering bulb to force indoors or a flowering catcus for extra color.

We even had a 'summer' bbq type dinner last weekend.  Made a pork in the crock pot and then shredded it for pulled pork and put it in the oven with bbq sauce to get the bit of crackle on ends.   We even picked up frozen corn on the cob, just to make it a summer picnic :)   Was fun!

But you are right, a nice bunch of bright flowers is a great way to make you smile on a cold blustery winter day :)

Thanks for posting the thought!

Great idea! I love fresh flowers in the house, but tend to forget to pick some up.  My roommate especially finds winter dark & depressing.  I'm stoping today on the way home from physical therapy to pick up some bright & lovely flowers!
Thank you!
