Have not posted in a while BUT........

Hello to everyone. while I have not posted in quite some time, I still lurk around to check on everyone.
I just had another MRI this past Friday and got the report today.
Just curious as to what to think......Oh Ya, I only have a dx of "Probable MS" up until this recent MRI. Now I do not know what he will say...maybe nothing....

BRAIN:
Focal areas of DECREASED signal on T1 and INCREASED signal on T2 are present w/in primarily the Basil Ganglia regions and a lesser degree in the Centrum Semiovale. These foci are well circumcised.

C-Spine:
Examination is abnormal w/ focus of increased signal involving the posterior column region at the level of superior C7.
This area raises concern for Focal Demyelinating plaque.

I just had a C-Spine MRI about 7 months ago w/ and w/out contrast and it was normal.
Some of the brain lesions in my brain mri were not noted in this mri...Does that mean they healed?  And, what does "well circumcised" mean referrring to the brain MRI?
Thank You so much in advance for any and all info.
Take Care,
~Tonya

First off,  Thank you sooo much for responding to myquestion.

So MS plaques are "well cicumscibed"? NOT fuzz or irregular??
Yes, my legs have become very weak over the last few months. So much in fact that I can not stroll through the mall with my children or take walks.. Very sad to me.
And, I do in fact, have hyper-reflexes. Guess those lesions (plaques) would explain my sx.
Take Care and Thanks again,
~Tonya

Oh my gosh!
You are so good. It DOES say circumscibed NOT cicumcised!
I am so sorry for wanting someone to help out with a question and I wrote it down wrong :o

So, are MS lesions usually "well cicumscribed"?
And what did you think about the c-spine result?

Rena, Thank you so much for responding.

Sooo good to see you!

Rena is correct.  If a lesion is well circumscribed, then it has clearly defined borders and not fuzzy or indistinct borders.  MS plaques have clear borders.

So you have T1 hypointensities also known as "black holes" and some T2 hyperintensities.  Both of these are classic for MS.  Lesions in the basal ganglia are somewhat less common in MS, but they do occur.  Lesions in the Centrum Semiovale are very common in MS.

In the spine the posterior columns carry the motor nerves, so I would expect you to have some weakness, hyper reflexes or such.

If this doesn't push him over into a diagnosis seek a second opinion!

Good to have you back.

I just wanted to ensure that the report did or didn't perhaps say "well circumscribed"?  I am not sure what this means but when I googled circumcised in relation to a brain MRI it came back with "circumscribed" rather than "circumcised".

The definition of circumscribed is as follows:

cir·cum·scribed, cir·cum·scrib·ing, cir·cum·scribes
1. To draw a line around; encircle.
2. To limit narrowly; restrict.
3. To determine the limits of; define. See Synonyms at limit.
4.
a. To enclose (a polygon or polyhedron) within a configuration of lines, curves, or surfaces so that every vertex of the enclosed object is incident on the enclosing configuration.
b. To erect (such a configuration) around a polygon or polyhedron: circumscribe a circle around a square.

I would imagine that the radiologist meant that the foci are well defined because of them being encircled by a definite line...am I on the right track do you think???

I hope that this has helped you some but I am sure someone else will answer your questions more fully shortly.

Lots of Hugs,
Rena
