eye doctor appt yesterday

Saw my ophthalmologist yesterday. She is the only really good doctor I have at the VA. I finally had good eye pressure for this visit so that was good news for a change.18 in both eyes instead of the 26 and 27 it had been before.

When testing my vision I discovered something kind of disturbing. The chart I had to read had both letters and numbers. When I got to a 3 on the chart I could not figure out what it was. Not because I could not see it clearly, but I didn't know what it was. I ended up telling the tech it looked like a backward 3. It wasn't until several hours later that I finally realized that it wasn't a backward 3.

I find this disturbing because it makes me wonder if this is the start of my losing the ability to read since I can't recognize letter and number. I'm sure it is just a one time thing, but I still wonder.

Not sure if I will get this posted or not as I'm currently under a tornado watch with severe thunderstorms going on outside. So far my UPS is keeping me up and running.

The not sanitizing problem seems to be a reoccurring problem at VA hospitals. Have heard reports about the Nashville VA having that problem a couple of times in the last few years.

I just had a thought about the 3 a little while ago. A couple of weeks ago I could not recognize my car and then yesterday it was the 3. I think this might be indication that the part of my brain that does the visual recognition is  having problems ( where ever that is) . I have my next appointment with my VA neuro next month so I'll have  to try and bring this up with who ever it is I see.

Hi Dennis, I could understand that 3 looking like a B on a chart but the reverse/backward 3 is a totally different idea.  I have no idea what this might mean.

I am glad you like this doctor - you deserve at least one good VA doc.  

Our local VA hospital is making the news in a big way, thanks to doctors in the dental clinic knowingly  not sanitizing equipment and contaminating untold numbers of patients.  It is a horrible story - our vets deserved so much better.
