ps: my neuro describes this problem as cervical myelopathy and is due to lesions in my spinal cord.
Yes!! I have this problem with my left hand, just like you describe it. It feels like the skin has shrunk and is too tight, like wearing a glove that is too small. I also have numbness and tingling in my fingers, and a burning sensation on my palm. Sometimes it's just my hand, other times it creeps up my forearm and the skin there becomes so hypersensitive I can't stand anything to touch it, even a sleeve.
This first started with a big flare in Sept 07, remitted for a while, returned in March with another flare, and has never improved. I take 3600mg/day of Neurontin and 50mg/day of amitriptyline, which has decreased the discomfort somewhat but does not make it disappear entirely.
Functionally, it has caused my hand to be very clumsy, and I have lost some dexterity. My keyboarding has really been affected, I make tons of mistakes and as a result type much slower than I used to be able to.
I am right-handed, thank goodness, although a while ago I noticed a very slight almost imperceptible numbness on the tips of three fingers, that has been constant. I'm concerned, because this is how it all started on my left hand. If my right hand eventually becomes as bad as my left, it will impair my functionally significantly. So my only hope is that my DMD therapy will prevent the right side from worsening, or at least slow it down a lot.
I would definitely recommend you mention this to your GP. You may get some relief from anti-convulsant and/or tricyclic antidepressants.
