Abnormal MRI

I'm a 36 year old female; have been experiencing left sided numbness; weakness; blurred vision; along with dizziness; fatigue. I had a MRI done of the brain and orbits which showed: of concern a number of periventricular and subcortical white matter signal abnormalities seen bilaterally; right more so than left. these areas appear to be particularly striking on the sagittal flair images; and changed since the prior exam. demyelinating process here needs to be considered. no gross enhancing mass/lesion. possible area of new T2 signal abnormality in the right peduncle region as well. no convincing area of restricted diffusion. small enhancing focus described previously on the left near the orbital apex region on the order of 5mm in the middle cranial fossa region medially is noted. I'm being told the is a normal MRI and not to be concerned. I don't have high blood; migraines. I respond to prednisone if I'm having a lot of problems with numbness; dizziness and fatigue.

Looks like I might be getting somewhere and finally getting some answers. Saw a retina specialist had some testing done my left optic nerve is thickened and inflammed; and with my recent MRI results; and new lesion. Thinking that I have optic neuritis and MS. Getting scheduled with a doctor that specializes in MS for further testing to find out for sure. Nothing like feeling like crap for almost 3 years before someone can figure out what is really going on. I've had a lot of testing done and have found out problems along the way....hopefully the real final answer is coming very soon!!

Hi-
I'm in the process of finding neuro #3....when I go and do some research online; my symptoms I'm having all point towards MS. I would like to find a doctor than can diagnosis properly so I can get started on some type of treatment. I know I'm not crazy and it's all not stress related issues!!
Thanks Lulu

Hi!  When you find neuro #3 be sure to look for one who specializes in MS - we fondly call them MSologists.  You can find them associated with teaching hospitals and universities.

The MSologist stays on top of the latest MS news, including diagnostic techniques and clues that the regular neuros may not know.

good luck, Lulu

Thanks....I have seen two neurologists....two different opinions....time for another neurologist I think. I hate feeling like crap; tripping over my own feet; feeling extremely exhausted at the end of the day. I could see if I felt like crap and my MRI actually said "normal exam" then tell me it's stress or something. ya know?

My doctor gave me the report; another doctor in the past who no longer takes my insurance had put me on prednisone for my episodes of numbness and dizziness.....that doctor thought that I have MS. I'm going to be getting a second opinion.

I think the following 3 comments stand out and for these plus having no alternative explanation for your sx's, it is in your best interest to get a second neurological opinion, especially from a neuro that specialises in MS.

1.a number of periventricular and subcortical white matter signal abnormalities 2.demyelinating process here needs to be considered
3.changed since the prior exam

Cheers.......JJ

I'm not a dr. but this doesn't sound normal to me. I think if your MRI is normal they would not say "demyelinating process here needs to be considered"...among other things that are reported here.

Who reported to you that you had a normal MRI? Was it your doctor? If this were my report I would be looking for another opinion at least.

Have you been diagnosed with something? You mentioned prednisone.
