thanks quix, apreciate it.
Approximately 1 in 7 get a spinal headache whether they lie flat afterwards or not. If you get it, you will get over it, but some of them need a blood patch to help with the sealing over of the leak. It isn't all due to doctor's technique or your behavior.
Good luck, and at some point you will have to start sitting up, lol. Just do it gradually. Up for a while and then a while back down. The "good" thing about this pain, is that there is a way to relieve it - by getting flat again.

eah you doctor sounds a little to care free there! I'm going next Tuesday for my first one ever and all this about being in terrible pain is kinda freakin me out a tad bit! I would like to know your answer also about the chances. Mine said I have to stay an hour afterwards so they can watch me and make sure I don't get no headaches. My MS Specialist is doing mine for me and hes in his 50s so he must have alot of experience in it im hoping!
sorry i posted this in wrong forum. i went in for back pain releif, not ms. but would still apreciate any input. thank you
i went in for a spinal injection nearly 16 hrs ago. i overheard the anastesologist say to his assistant that that he noticed spinal fluid. ive been on my back ever since even as we speak. i coulnt sleep cause im dreading the possible impending headaches ive read so much about. what really gets me is that i asked the nurses if i could for-go my 2nd injection which were 2 weeks apart. i asked to reschedule since my back felt ok with moderate activity, but was talked into comming in anyways. the dr didnt even wear his smock as he joked to his nurse that he was sick of putting it on. is this illegal? anyways i went and stocked up on coke zero and water, and ive been drinkin alot of h2o. needless to say i am upset that the procedure didnt go well as the first. does this dr just suck? i really could use some advice as i lay here . i asked the dr what are the chances ill get these major headaches, and he replied 50/50. is this misleading? am i in for it no matter what? guess ill find out. sorry for poor puncuation typing one handed.
Thanks! My mom has numbness in her head and dizziness so she went to the doctor about a week ago and then all this happened and they gave her a CD of when she went to get a MRI done. We put it in the computer and their were tons of pictures of her brain and you can see two white spots in some of the pictures and the doctors said that it was lesions. We looked up lesions and MS because the doctor said that can be the reason for the lesions. Most sites said that you will have problems moving and such but I feel so much better now that I know it's not as bad as it sounds. Although, I did read that it's uncurable. Do you know if that's true?
Yes, alot has been going threw my mind. One of my friends had an anurism a few years ago and died and so now everytime I hear about something going on in the brain I automatically think the worse. But, since it's New Years and my mom got the blood patch she didn't really go outside much and walked around. We stayed home with her so she wouldn't feel left out. We HAD to go to our neighbors for a while though because she was feeling guilty about us having a not-so-great New Years. Sure, I'll make a new post because I have MANY questions. Thank you so much for spending your time to help my mother and me out. Happy New Year!!
Hi, and Welcome to the Forum. I send you a Private Message before I knew that your mom might have MS.
I can only imagine what must be going through your mind right now. Do you know anything about MS? If so, you might have some common misunderstandings about it. We invite you to ask any and all questions you might have here, as we have a few hundred active members, some very young members, and a couple thousand members that read, but don't often post.
Mulitple Sclerosis is a disease that acts groups of nerves in the brain and spinal cord. Usually the attacks come with a combination of symptoms, but there are so many possible symptoms that it would be impossible to list them all. People can have vision problems, weakness, dizziness, muscle cramps, places on their skin that feel tingly or are numb, and many, many more. One of the major and most common symptoms is incredibly bad fatigue. They can be so tired that they can barely get out of a chair.
Many people think that MS means they are going to die early or soon. THIS IS NOT TRUE. Most people getting diagnosed now will live as long as anyone else, but they will likely have some times where they have trouble doing things or where they feel bad or are in pain. Over time (decades) many people with MS may have trouble walking and need to use a cane or a wheelchair. This does not happen to everyone, even though this is what many people imagine when they hear the words Multiple Sclerosis.
The best thing that you can do for your mother is to show her that you love her and realize that she might not always be able to do everything she did before, especially during an attack. She might be frightened and believe that she won't be around to see you grow up and live your life. You can help her understand that MS doesn't kill, but it can make things difficult sometimes. She might also feel guilty if she has been feeling bad and not doing as much with the family and with you. This is really common. MS usually hits people (women more than men) when they are in their 20's and 30's.
It must be hard for you to see your mom so sick. I hope you can stay here and ask questions and learn of this, if she does have MS, so you can feel more comfortable that this is not usually as bad as people imagine. We will all help out.
You are a wonderful daughter to come online and start to ask questions. Your mom is lucky to have you.
You added your post to an old thread from last spring. Would you mind - if you want to - starting a new post and asking any questions you might have? Just go to the top of a page and click on "Post a Question". then you will have your own thread and people will see your question. It might get overlooked here. We like for everyone to have their own place to talk.
I'm glad you came here and I hope we can help.

My mom might have MS. She just got back from the hospital....she is in bed right now but she is definally feeling better.
Im so sorry!! My mom went to get a LP yesterday and she is in the hospital right now due to sevure headaches and throwing up. She is getting a blood patch right now. I found this page while researching answers to why she would need this but found nothing. I'm thirteen so I don't really understand all this stuff but I do hope you feel better!!
Oh my. I'm so glad they kept you in the hospital w/this.
The worse is over. HOpefully the results will tell the tale.
Keep resting if you are able, Hollie, it should help.
be well,
Shell
Typically the blood patch is reserved for a headache that lasts more than about 3 days. they do still do them. Several here have had a patch stop the headache. I have never heard of doing the patch at the same time, because they go into different spaces.
Noel, I'm sorry you had the dreaded headache. I hope the LP gives the needed information.
Q
When I had my LP years ago, I was down for at least 10 days. I tried to go back to work when they said I could, but I had the worst headache of my life. It turns out my CSF was leaking. I should have had a blood patch to plug up the puncture site. They used to do that routinely, but stopped. I don't know if its too late after the fact. But if I ever need another LP, I'm demanding the blood patch.
Noelwolf,
Sorry you had such a bad time with the LP. That must have been terrible. I had mine done under flourascope (sp?) which allowed them to see the spine -kinda like an x-ray. IF you ever have to have another one look for a location that can do it this way.
I am glad you are doing a bit better. Take it easy.

My spin got nicked when I had my Lumbar puncture. to be honest it is not fun at all. I hope you do better at it then I did. I wish you the best of luck!! All and all it needs to be down if the doctor is trying to roll out MS.
Yikes, I am so sorry you are going through this, and I am very fearful as I am scheduled for an LP on Wed. next week. Do you know why you had such a reaction to the procedure?
I hope you are feeling better real soon. :)
Rosanne
Hollie,
Sorry you had to go through that. How long did it take them to schedule the LP?
