Some bleeding after Urodynamic testing

I had my urodynamic testing done on Friday, which had a few painful moments.  Everything tested pretty normal, which is very nice.  I was a bit uncomfortable afterwards, but kept myself happily distracted.

On a trip to the bathroom later in the day, I noticed a large-ish drop of urine in my panty-liner, which obviously had blood in it.  Yesterday there was several drops throughout the day with dark blood, and sometimes when I would urinate I would find blood when I wiped.  I tried to check and see if it was coming from my vaginal opening or my urethra, and it seems to be coming more from the urethra area.

I am on my placebo week of b.c. pills, but my period hasn't been starting (for several months now) until well into the first week of a new pill pack.  I suppose my period could be starting early because of the traumatic experience in the general area, lol!

Is it normal to have some bleeding after urodynamic testing?  Should I call my urogynecologist's office about it, or just let it go?  I am having some discomfort, and I forgot to get the Rx for Pyridium filled after my testing (I'll get it filled Monday).

Thanks for any thoughts on the matter!

Kathy

I had a urodynamics test done just befor the new year. My test was done mid morning and by that afternoon was starting to feel as though I might be getting a uti/bladder infection. No burning or stinging just felt like I needed to wee more. The next day I saw blood in my urine. The following day there were massive clots and large amounts of tissue. This continued for about 6/7 weeks. Since having this test I have been anemic, have a low ferritin level of 5, and have been having to get Ferrum H injections 2 every 3 days for about 8weeks. Eventually my ferritin level came back up. Then as soon as that was fixed I got an abscess that joined up to my anus. Had it lanced and drained/packed and put on antibiotics. Then just recently I have had a abscess develop on my right labia minora, which poped on its own, but not even 5 days later it was back and had to go to theatre for drainage. I have now been informed that during the surgery the doctor picked up on a systolic grade 3 heart murmur. Please has anyone else experienced this it know of anyone who has. I am at the end of my tether, and am so depressed. If anyone can help me please.

I did call the office, and was told that it is indeed fairly common, and since it is tapering off, should not be a cause for concern, but to call if I have any more concerns.  My urogynecologist and her medical assistant are so nice!

Thanks, you've helped put my mind at ease and still not feel like a wuss for wanting to call the office about it.

Call the office Monday morning first thing.  That way they can work you in if need be.  If everything is ok then enjoy your trip.  But don't wait and then have the condition worsen on Tues or Wed.

Cheers, Jules

It is not uncommon at all for you to have a little blood after having been "instrumented" (yes, the actual word they use, lol).  Yes, also get the Pyridium for the discomfort.

Even though this is to be expected, it wouldn't hurt to call the office tomorrow and talk to them to see how long you should expect it.

The blood was mixed with my urine that leaked into my pantyliner, a smallish drop at first.  This is indeed abnormal for me; no blood in my urine since a really bad triple infection when I was about 16.

This doesn't seem to be period-type spotting, but of course it's possible.  I have thinned endometrial lining, and have had spotting after falling down the stairs; stranger things have happened.

I'm flying south on Wednesday morning, so just thought I'd ask for signs that should make me concerned about the situation, say if I should get a fever or something like that.

No worries, I can always call the doctor from CA if necessary, right?

Kathy,
I haven't a clue but if it is abnormal for you then definitely let your doctor know what's going on.

Good luck,
Lulu
