Hi, Mary,

The arthritis has nothing to do with the MS, but the flair up of arthritis may be happening along with a viral infection that has caused some fever.  The fever will certainly caused the MS symptoms to be worse.  The two things together will make you feel crummy all over.  You should see your PCP about the arthritis to see if it is something more than garden variety aging joint.  Osteoarthritis does not usually cause red, warm joints.  That is more like an inflammatory arthritis like RA or even some kinds of viruses will cause it.  ( I had inflammatory arthritis with Parvo B19 - Slapped Cheek Disease, or Fifth Disease)

So, do let your regular doctor know about this.  IF your MS is much worse also, then let your neuro know, too.

Hi Mary,

Did you give your MD a call? To see if you were indeed coming down with something? I hope it was just a temporary increase in symptoms and not a relapse. Virus can definitely cause this.

Get back to us w/an update on how you are doing if you can.

I would give your neuro a call to update him of this development and seek some advice. I am not sure about redness and cannot answer your question about arthritis but you could also go to your g.p.?  It is never worth sitting at home doing nothing when you are feeling unwell with M.S. particularly if things deteriorate further and there is no need to suffer with pain as treatment will be available to help you.

Best wishes

Sarah
