Does this sound like MS?

My name is Whitney and I'm 25 years old.  Back in May I ended up in the ER for some really scary symptoms.  I woke up that morning feeling normal.  My kids wanted to watch a movie so I needed to plug the cords in but I didn't know which inputs to plug them into.  My husband was at work so I called him on the phone to ask him and it all hit  me.  In the middle of asking him I couldn't figure out what I was trying to ask him.  He kept saying "what is wrong with you" and I kept saying "I don't know but somethings wrong".  I knew what I wanted to ask him but its like I was searching my brain for the words and nothing was there.  I got really scared which might have exarcibated the following.  I went into the bathroom and started asking myself questions in the mirror such as what are your kids names, what are their birthdays.  I could remember those things but when I said them the words came out jumbled and wrong and then I felt like I was thinking very slowly.  I'm a smoker and I turn to cigerattes when I'm stressed, nervous, or scared.  I went out onto the porch and lit a smoke when all of a sudden my right arm and hand started tingling and went numb.  My mother in law came to get the kids so I could go to the hospital and my speech started to return to normal.  I then got a headache in the back left part of my head and a pain behind my left eye.  I got to the hospital where they ran numerous tests and put me on neurological watch for three days.  They initially thought I had a TIA but by the time I left they had ruled it out because of my age.  Since then I have had constant symptoms.  Random tongue tingling, pain/stiffness in neck, constantly feeling like I'm off balance but not quite vertigo feeling, aching in my right arm, random shooting pain in my right foot, unusual tiredness.  I know it sounds crazy but it just seems like I'm falling apart.  I had a follow up appt with the neuro I saw in the hospital and she did nothing but tell me they don't know what happened or why it did but to stay healthy.  I have since made another appt with another neurologist upon reading about MS symptoms.  No one in my family has it.  My dad does have Muscualr Dystrophy but I'm not sure if they tie in together or not.  Anyone experience any of these things????

Hi Whitney, and welcome here.

Wow, you've had a tough time of it. I agree you need to find a neuro who wants to get to the bottom of things as much as you want that too. Many of us have gone through a whole string of neuros to get to that point, but it's worth it.

There are many conditions with neurological symptoms, and all others have to be eliminated before an MS diagnosis can be made. Get together all your hospital records, MRI reports and films or CDs, and any other test results you have. That will eliminate duplication and save time when you see your next neuro.

Keep posting with us for lots of support, but please, next time break your post into small paragraphs with space between. Many here have difficulty with reading big blocks of text. And also please look at our Health Pages for great info.

Best of luck,
ess

Welcome to the forum.

Aphasia (impaired language ability) is a CNS symptom.  It is common in strokes, MS, TIAs., etc.  Given your description of paresthesias, and right sided pain, it would seem reasonable to request a referral to a Neurologist.

Given the symptoms you described, I don't think you need to be too concerned about Muscular Dystrophy, since this is a disease of the muscles and neuro-muscular junctions.  The symptoms you describe seem more neurological to me.  That said, the symptoms could be MS or any one of a number of neurological conditions.

You should consider putting together a timeline (see the health pages on the upper right corner of the page) and see your PCP about getting a referral.
