ON Question

As most of you know, I am relatively symptom free and have little experience with the *fun* stuff of MS.  but I think I may be experiencing a touch of ON today - it started last night when we came home.  The house looked like it was full of smoke but the smoke detectors weren't going off.  It was just that hazy look when there should have been none.

Then before bed my right eye was tearing, significantly.  And it felt like it desperately wanted to be closed for the night, so I went to bed.

Today the haziness is gone but  the vision is somewhat blurred.

This morning I have what would be for lack of better words, stabbing pains in my right eye.  It actually is to the top of  eye socket - its not constant stabbing.  but it was been there for the last three hours on and off.  When its not stabbing me, I feel a general headache type pain in the eye.

So what do you think?  ON?  I leave on vacation this coming Saturday and this would be the worst time to go into any sort of MS problem. If it is still there in the morning do I call the opthamologist or the neurologist?

thanks,
Lulu

Lulu,

What are we going to do with you, lol. You really wouldn't let any of us get away with this so I guess it's a case of do as I say, not as I do, ha ha.

Since you don't leave until Saturday, it's not too late to call the neuro and be a good girl.

Have you tried closing one eye at a time and looking at something to check your color sight? If one eye is brighter or no color then that's a major clue (red is the best color to try it on).

If the eye only hurts when you move the eye and not the head from side to side that's another clue.

Sweetie call the neuro just to be safe. Keep us posted & have a nice trip.

Hugs,
Erin :)

Hi all,
my eye is greatly improved and just have some residual pressure behind it.  Perhaps it was allergies or sinus?  Yes, I know I'm grasping there and it does sound like ON.  A very mild case but still not normal.

Really I do feel fine now and am not concerned about this interferring with the trip.  Here's hoping I am right - thanks for the friendly advice.

Well?

I know I'm a day late and a dollar short where responses are concerned - but did you go, Lu?

I agree with others in that it does sound like ON, my two episodes were incredibly similar to what you described.  Really sorry to say that and hope it isn't.

I would go down the neuro route too - good luck x

I went on vacation and developed more sx.  I would recommend going on and getting this ck out.  I did not want to see a Dr. in another state.  Take care of youself and you will have a much nicer vacations.

Lulu, Lulu, Lulu.....

Yes, this does sound like ON and I think you should get some treatment for it before you leave on vacation.  Call your neuro, tell him the story and see if he will order 3 days of infusions so you can possibily stop the symptoms that could wreck your vacation.  Make sense?

ET is not the right specialty for this and won't buy you any time.

As you know the symptoms can build over a number of days and hold on for weeks.  Be proactive to try to ensure that this doesn't ruin your good times.

Did you ever find out what was causing your eyes symptoms?  Did you go to the dr? or did yor sx go away?

The neuro-opthamologist I saw last month confirmed that I had a ON several months ago, and how you described your symptoms sounds like ON to me.  Any double vision?

I asked if you wore contacts because that is the first question my doctor asks me whenever I get that same pain especially if it is only in one eye.  So, it was good to hear that you don't wear them so infection could be ruled out.

Like you mentioned earlier, see how you are doing in the morning and I'd call the neuro.   I hope you don't have to have your first experience with IV-steroids, but you may be on that track.  Take care and let us know how this turns out.

I've had ON twice and your eye problem sure sounds like it to me.

I often get episodes like that and I tend to classify it as on going after effects of ON. Hazy fog, weeping eyes and stabbing pains.

ON often (but not always) hurts when your eye moves too - which is **** as you can't stop your eyes moving. The 2 major episodes I had were excruciating.

Best get it checked - don't waste time with the optho go straight to the neuro is my advice - I've been given the run around with eye problems too often and I am still paying the price.

Good luck and let's hope it's not eh?

Love
Pat

Hi, LuLu,

Do you have any type of hay fever or seasonal allergies?  This time of year I tear and blur like crazy.  Maybe your ENT can get you some answers or get you in to your ophthalmologist sooner than later.

In any case, have a great vacation.  I hope this isn't a flair...

Cheers,

I would call my neuro, as it sounds as a case of ON.  I have had plenty of episodes and they usually start like that.

I hope it is not so that you can enjoy your vacations.

Keep us posted.

Thanks Meg,
I already have an ENT appt in the morning - unfortunately not his specialty!  I'll see how it is in the morning and make the call.
