sharp stabbing pains in my head

Hi to all, and the very Merriest Christmas is wished for everyone...... *HUGS*

Just a quick question, that last little while, I have been having the centre strip of my tongue go tingling and numb, ( kinda like you burned yourself on a cup of tea or something) , anyways, now I am getting lots of sharp, stabbing pains in my head, it actually stops me in my tracks, and then the weird rushing sound starts in my left ear, ...... has anyone else experienced this one???

Thanks,
Candy

Hi there,
I have the same problem, I have had repeat normal MRI of my brain and mine are headaches or the aura, I think they are the ice pick type headaches, I get the tingly tongue as well, sometimes my scalp tingles and  other times I get weird almost like a cheese grater going off in my head... it is horrible, I was plagued almost daily with this, but I have been on migraine medicine now for a while and it seems to help, but every now and then I still get the stabby pains in my head and other parts of my body.

You should always mention any new symptom to your doctor, it does sound like a headache (migraine to me) but many people like Jen said get pins and needles on their tongue etc. depending on where their lesion is located and sometimes MS and migraine seem to cross over.

Hope you are feeling better soon

Cheers,
Udkas.

Hi Jen,
It is on my scalp, and inside my head too, the actual stabbing is in the head, but the cold, numb stinging feeling is on the scalp.  My ears are really odd, never had this one before, and the tongue thing.  It has been going on for about 1 month now, ...........

you are right though, NO FUN at all, especially at Christmas, not that any other time would be more fun..... LOL

Your stabbing pains in the head - is in inside the head?  Or does it feel like it's on the scalp?

Many times lesions to the cranial nerves will cause head symptoms like you're describing.  I have buzzing, tingling, sensations of pressure, and sharp stabbing pains in my scalp.  I've also had what feels like an electric shock to the tongue.  No fun!

Do ice pick headaches cause numbing on the tongue?  That is what makes it sound like a neuro problem to me.

Oooo, ooo, I had this off and on a lot in November and beginning of December.  I'm truly not excited that I have those symptoms, just don't feel like such an alien when I see others complain of same issues.  So sorry you are going through it though!!!  Will say a prayer!  My neuro didn't seem to interested in it.  :(

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Hi Candy, I have experienced those headaches in the past - we often call them ice pick headaches because it is just a stabbing pain.  Nothing that lasts - but it sure can be uncomfortable.  Be sure to talk to your doctor about this if it continues.

be well, Lulu

Have you talked with your PCP?  If not, I think you should.  It does sound like a neurological problem.
