startling

I have noticed for a long time my startle reflex is very sensitive and little sounds or touches make my body jerk. I also have like lightening flashes behind eyelids when I fall asleep if there's a small sound. I am now noticing those flashes even when I am just sitting relaxed and for instance my cellphone dings with an alert. Is this ms related or just my insanity?

Oh I am so glad others have experienced this. Not that I wish it on u.lol just I was beginning to wonder. I mentioned it to my rebif nurse and she had never heard of such a thing. It's just gotten so much worse lately decided I would ask.

I have often wondered the same..I to get the lightening flash behind the eyeballs when I laying  down to sleep some nights it's almost like a laser show with all the flashes...I'm not Dx with anything yet but I find it very interesting that you are experiencing the same thing ....I don't get the sound bursts ..

Have a great night

I've had similar experiences.  I get these jerks when I'm lying down.  I will most typically get them just before going to sleep several times.  I also get them when I'm not really sleeping--cat napping.

I don't get the lightening flashes behind the eyeball, but I will get sound bursts of louder ringing in my ears when I move my eyeballs to one side.  I also have had lightening flashes out of the corner of my vision that I notice only when the lights are out.  I only noticed this when I had optic neuritis.

I have heard that this weird phenomenon had a name.  I think it was called sound phophenes.  This may be what you're experiencing when you hear your cellphone ping.
