mri question

I received a copy of my mri report and plan to meet with my neurologist in the next two weeks to discuss. I am concerned about some of the findings: "In the scalp, a small T2 hyperintensity is seen in right parietal region near the apex which might represent a small subcutaneous nodule, possibly cystic." In the cerebral parenchyma, there are 1-2 punctate t2 hyperintensities in the deep white matter which are non-specific with regard to etiology.  One is noted in the right posterior parietal region. The others are up otward the right frontal and subcortical whie matter. Several small linear t2 hyperintensities which are t1 and flair hypotense are seen in the basal ganglia and thought to represent Virchow-Robin spaces." What does this mean? Should I be concerned. I have a mother with MS and high incidence of autoimmune diseases in my family. Please advise. Thank you.

I don't see anything on your report that is alarming to me.  The scalp thing could be a little cyst from a scalp oil gland or from an old pimple.  The 2 pinpoint hyperintensities are discribed in a very innocuous wording and are likely not important.  You need to hear what the neuro thinks of it.

Good luck, Anything, I know, seems worrisome when there is MS in the family.

Boy, this one is even hard for an old MS'er like me to understand...and I don't understand much about MRI reports anyway.

I think the best person to answer this one, is your Neurologist.  And he better talk with you this week, so you aren't left hanging, wondering what it all means.

I can totally understand your concerns, since your mother has MS.  I thought I read where the children of someone with MS only had a slight chance of having the same defective gene that MIGHT be responsible for MS starting up in the first place.  I will do a little research for you today and see what I can find out.

Hang in there....

IT'S BEST FOR YOUR NEURO TO DISCUSS THESE FINDINGS WITH YOU AS HE SHOULD READ THE MRI'S HIMSELF.

BUT WE ARE HEAR FOR YOU.HOW IS YOUR MOTHER DOING WITH HER MS?
