Just saw MS specialist

This doc is one of the top MS specialists in the country, and one of his main areas of focus is PPMS (he does most of any big studies in PPMS that you've seen). The upshot of the appt is that I'm going to have VEP, BAER, and SSEP testing done in a couple of weeks. He's also going to take some time over the next couple of days to look closely at my MRIs. My husband was there with me. Also, he's contacting my home neuro about prescribing me meds for my pain and fatigue, which I hope work well, because that would be great.

Of course, I was having a pretty "good" day today, after about five awful ones last week. Just once, I wish my neuro exams would coincide with some of my "bad" days. Sigh. I don't think he was terribly impressed with the exam, but his was pretty quick, not as long as some very thorough ones I've had. Of course, he's got a stack of exam results from other neuros, too.

Anyway...no dx. More testing. Getting symptom treatment. No one said I was crazy or anxious, which is good, because I'm not. He was very kind, listened well, behaved thoughtfully, is being very thorough. Can't ask for much more from an uber specialist or anyone else for that matter.

You've been here such a long time with no real answers. I know it's maddening, and just hope you're at the beginning of the end of your quest.

As we've discussed here often, it's not faking or being disingenuous to try to let your doctor see you at your worst. That is the life you have to contend with. So next time try walking a lot or housework or whatever causes worsening of your symptoms for a couple of hours before your appointment.

Hang in there,

Hi Bio,
Sounds like you have the 'right person for the job", lets hope you get some answers.  Sounds like you are off to a good start, a Dr who listens, orders more tests.  Isn't it just frustrating how you get always seem to be better on the day you have your tests or see the Dr.

Keep us posted,
Cheers,
Udkas.

Well, that sounds promising. I hope he does come through with some firm answers. And it is annoying to be suddenly relatively better on the day of a neuro appointment.

I'm glad your uber specialist is thoughtful and caring. Those that are tops in their field don't always have a good bedside manner. And, I like the fact he is contacting your home neuro to coordinate care.

Sounds like a step in the right direction. Keep us informed of your progress and/or relief of symptoms with the new drugs.

take care,

Ren

sounds good so far and alot of times if it's PPMS all you get is treatment for symptoms.. Gabapentin and Amantadine is what I'm taking so far for pain and fatigue.. could be other meds as well..

I think it's good you found someone that's nice..and listens.. good luck with the Tests.. mine came back neg and still got a Dx after watching my symptoms and my neuro exams..and the brain MRIs...

let us know how they go..
take care
