that's what my gut feeling has been telling me since this mess started not fibro.
Within the last 6 months, I felt what I 1st thought was bad case of heart burn until I took a drink of cold water. my esophagus stopped burning when I took a drink, but returned as soon as the cold water passed. my stomach didn't have the burning sensation. it last for 3 days and so far hasn't returned.
I've never experienced this with fibro. I'd be guessing here, but I think the nerve in my throat are a little low for TN. would this be correct?
ever since that bad flu (dec'08/jan'09)that almost killed me (my daughter told me I was turning gray, average fever was 102.6 spiked for 2 day 105.8F), the right side of my body has been going haywire.
I had some minor sx before like heat intolerance for a day or two. I wonder if the blood/brain barrier was breached during that flu. is that possible?
I've had Fibro for 20 yrs now, and up until recently, last year and a half, have never had the facial pain, numbness, like you describe. My similar sx started recently. Fibro does many things, but this face thing, has never been a Fibro sx.
My Fibro sx make me feel almost flu like. I cant be touched too hard cause it hurts,I kinda feel like I'm bruised all over, but I too started with the stabbing shock like pains in the face, I've also had the lip tingling and numbness, it was wierd, only the middle of my tongue tingled and went numb, and then the same day the middle part of the roof of my mouth did the same thing. Lasted 2 days. This is not Fibro honey

It sure sounds like TN to me...never heard of fibro doing any of your symptoms. I have aytyipical TN but get burning spams on right side of face mostly, and more recently have been having painful spams under right eye. occassional electric shock if I move my eye to quickly in one direction with occassional blurriness on computer screen. So to me it sounds like TN. Good luck I also have lips and tongue that are numb off and on.
Take care...
I think my dad is going to flip when I tell him what happened. he's a retired dentist but can't help. he's out of state and legally blind now. petty he was an excellent dentist.
If this problem showed up while he was working, at the very least he'd referred me to a nuero.
I kept telling my dentist the pain isn't full body/face wide just my right side. my dentist was telling me doctors don't know what fibro can do.
It is TN.
It is not fibro!
I've had similar pains and shocks in the exact places you describe, and even though some doctors have said I might have fibro, NONE of them suggested that the face shocks were fibro. Neither did my dentist.
Your dentist is being ridiculous. I can't believe a dental professional, who must know a lot about the trigeminal nerve, could think this is fibro. She obviously knows nothing about fibro.
