If you love your partner, marry.  Let karma go where it goes.  Besides I truly believe in ten years or so, we will have a cure or at least be able to stop this monster.

Hello I am not sure or know anything about the offspring thing, but take into consideration of how each of you will take care or support the other IF both of you relapses.
I my first MS patient, he and I grew close, I took care of him as if he was my spouse, over a period of time, I started to get weaker, and had to stop. He would always say its going to be me and you, and I would say you can't walk and I can hardly walk how we gonna take care of each other. But if its true love go with you heart and trust in the lord.

A good thing about this would be that your spouse and yourself would be much more understanding about the whole MS thing and what the other is going through.

My partner is in MS limbo - (what a horrible coincidence eh?) - once she started going through the diagnostic procedure and reading up about MS she became much more understanding and knowledgeable about what I was going through.

MS is not in itself a "genetic condition," but it may have a genetic component.  It seems that there are a few HLA alleles that may predispose someone to MS susceptibility.

In theory and through observation, identical twins and first order relatives seem to increase the risk of someone developing MS.  At this time, it is much more than just a simple regressive or dominant trait.

Genetically, you could see a counselor, but I suspect that they would say there could be a slight increase in risk for offspring.  Two people with MS could pass on a predisposition, but that is about it.  Keeping healthy D3 levels may mitigate much of that risk.

I have read your post slightly differently from Supermum and think that you are saying you have met someone you love who has MS and you have also been diagnosed with MS and you are wondering if this will mean that any offspring you may have will inherity the illness.

MS is not a genetic condition but there may be factors that contribute towards a genetic predisposition and having two close relatives (Mum and Dad) I think would increase this genetic predisposition.  There are other folks on the forum who have the statistics and are more knowledgeable than me on this subject so I hope they may be able to give you some clearer guidelines.

Meanwhile you are very welcome on the forum and congratulations on finding that special someone. You will both be able to support each other and understand when you are not feeling well. I think it would be a very good idea to talk this through with a professional and  I am not sure if you have something like a MS nurse but if you do she may be the right person to talk to.

With best wishes

Hi and welcome, you may like to read our health pages on the top right of your screen its the yellow icon, losts of answers to your questions you'll find in our health pages.

Regarding your post though, i err hope its a communicational/translation error but it reads like you want to marry someone 'because' they have MS and that you want to make sure your kids will also have MS. That couldn't possibly be what you meant, so would you mind clarrifying what it is that you do mean. thank you :-)

Cheers.........JJ
