I recently had am M.R.I. and I really can't talk to my doctor for a couple of days.Your help please.

Here are the results of an M.R.I. 14 years after an Acoustic Neuroma was removed from the Right side of my head.  All previous M.R.I. results came out fine. Please explaine these results to me.

Exactly Stated --- Findings suggestive of Mild Cerebellar Ectopia Measuring 4Cm. in Diameter.  This can be seen in the setting of Chiari 1 Malformation.

Findings presumably related to prior Acoustic Neuroma Resection on Right with suggestion of Mild Increased Flair Signal Involving the Lateral Inferior Right Cerebellar Hemisphere extending into the Right Cerebellopontine Angle.  Findings presumably related to Gliosis Secondary to prior Acoustic Neuroma Resection.  Evaluation is significantly limited given the lack of Intravenous Contrast.  Further Evaluation is RECOMMENDED with MRI of the Internal Auditory Canals with and without Contrast for Better Evaluation.

Otherwise no Acute Intracranial Process.

Findings: The Corpus Callosum, Pituitary glands are normal in Appearance.  There is Mild Cerebellar Ectopia Measuring 4mm.

No Abnormal areas of restricted diffusion.  Normal Vascular flow voids are present.

No midline shift, mass effect, extraaxial fluid collections, cortical based areas of infarction or intraparenchymal hemorrage.  There is mild FLAIR SIGNAL ABNORMALITY involving the right cerebelopontine angle extending into the right internal auditory canal, presumably related to Gliosis SECONDARY TO PRIOR ACOUSTIC NEUROMA RESECTION.

LIMITED EVALUATION OF THE INTERNAL AUDITORY CANAL ON TODAYS STUDY GIVEN LACK OF DEDICATED INTERNAL AUDITORY CANAL IMAGING AS WELL AS LACK OF INTRANOUS CONTRAST.

The visual orbits and paranasal sinuses are normal in appearance.  No fracture or abnormal tissue swelling.

Dear Friend,
After reading all the details, i really can conclude by saying that you appear to be near normal.
And you require a second opinion as i am in no position to give my diagnosis at this stage.
So please have a second consultation and then let us discuss.

Are you trying to say that this M.R.I. is normal?  I was figuring that it was only scar tissue, but when I looked it up, several issues came up.

I have been having BAD MIGRAINE HEADACHES the past year or so.  The last couple of months my right ear has felt like something is deep inside of it.  That is the deaf ear from the old brain tumor, also.  My brain tumor was as big as an over-sized egg and took out my 7th and 8th cranial nerves.  The tumor was only 1 or 2mm. away from my breathing nerve when they removed it.  The doctor told my family that it could have been hours or days, before it took out my breathing nerve.  The right side of my head does feel strange at times, especially when my head HURTS.  I did show the results to my regular private doctor.  He is only a general practitioner,  but he is a very good doctor.  I just went into his office without an appointment, and had the receptionist make a copy, and have his nurse take it to him.  He just had them to tell me not to worry and that he would explain it to me on my next time in.  I will see him in a couple of weeks.  Another doctor ordered the test and the test was done at the V.A. hospital.  The V.A. has all of my other M.R.I's on their computer.  I did not see in the results where he even compared this one to the rest of them.  I have had at least 5 or 6 over the last few years done by them.  I guess I need the Neurologist that ordered this one to get a copy of all of the other films and compare them to see if this is something new, or something that has been showing up gradually over the years.

I just got concerned about the results because it did show something a couple of centimeters big on it.  I know that tumors can grow real slow.  My Acoustic Neuroma was the size of a quarter when it was found but bled into itself after it was found and grew bigger than an over-sized egg in a couple of months.  I was told that was not normal for that kind of tumor.

I was over exposed and sensitized to paint with Chromium VI and Zinc in it as well as Polyurethane, while in the U.S.Navy.  The Acoustic Neuroma brain tumor showed up only a couple of years after being out.  I have tried to link that tumor to the things that I was around when I was an Aircraft Sheet Metal mechanic while I was in the Navy for 4 years.  I can't get a doctor to say that the things that I was exposed to could have caused THAT KIND of brain tumor.

I understand that it is hard for you to explain the results of this test, since you have not seen the films of this one, or any of the previous results.  I just need some clarification on what it really said in these results, because it is not really that plain to me.  I have gotten pretty good at reading the films and the results over the years because one of my doctors explained it to me one time.  These results are just a little more than I am used to.

Could these results explain why my memory is so bad though?  That was the main reason why this test was done.  I understand that you are only guessing by what these results have in the report, but any explanation is better than none.  These results did indicate that another test needs to be done with and without contrast.  What is your opinion of that?

Thank you for your time.

Dear Friend,
Well your findings are suggestive of reactive changes, secondary to the acoustic neuroma resection.
I am surprised to hear that the Previous MRI's were all normal.
Difficult to co-relate that previous to this, your MRI was fully perfect.

I mean we are bound to get the changes after such a major surgery, as the body reacts to the secondary changes, following the tumor removal.

What i would like you to do is get a hold of your previous reports and then compare with your neurologist/neurosurgeon, because we need to know -
1) Whether these changes/reactions to the tumor removal were happening gradually. OR.
2) These are some new findings mistaken for reactive changes for tumor removal.

So please discuss and let me know,
On the better side, i presume you are fully symptom free, so please don't take any stress while consulting the doctor.

Feel free for further discussion.
