MRI scan showed an incidental lesion

After going to an ENT due to tinnitus he conducted a hearing test. The test show greater high frequency hearing loss in the left ear than the right, but earlier hearing tests going back to Nov 2007 showed little change. The ENT requested an MRI to rule Schwannoma out. The MRI showed no Schwannoma but it did show a small (7mm) incidental ovoid T2 hyperintense focus in the posteromedial aspect of the left hemisphere that is hypointense on the diffusion imaging and of intermediate signal intensity on PD sequences. A MRI scan from Oct 2008 showed it as unchanged in size and configuration. The radiologisit thought is may be an epidermoid, arachnoid cyst or a small neuroepithelial cyst although the signal characteristics were atypical.  Non-specific T2 white matter hyperintense foci was found in the corona radiata, more so on the left. Everything else was normal.

The advice I was given was that it was probably a developmental cyst I was born with and it was probably benign and would never affect me.I haven't been suffering any noticeable symptoms other than the tinnitus which seems to be stress related. I have been suffering insomnia but this also seems to be stress related. I do yoga and ride a bike to work and my balance and coordination seems really good. I don't feel dizzy unless I haven't slept well and am stressed.

What do you think it is? Do you agree with the radiologist? Do you think it is safe to do nothing? Do I have anything to worry about??? Is there anything else I can do?

Dear Friend,
Many thanks for the post.
Please find my answers -

What do you think it is? Do you agree with the radiologist?
Both questions can be answered together. The radiologist appears to be correct.

Do you think it is safe to do nothing?
Yes, we need to have a wait and watch policy for the time being.

Do I have anything to worry about?
                      Presently NO.

Is there anything else I can do?
The best thing for you is to forget as what you are facing. It's having a lot of effect in your sub-conscious mind. And that can be causing some of the symptoms.
Please relax and wait. It will help to eliminate the subjective feeling.

Regards...

Please feel free to discuss more.

Practically speaking, they are found in 5% of the cases.
As far as life getting affected, well it purely depends on the site of involvement and the structures(nerves and arteries) involved.

How common are these cysts? Is it normal for people to live unaffected by them?
