Parsonage Turner after H1N1 Vaccine

I am a neurologist. My wife developed pain from Parsonage Turner Syndrome three days after reciveing the H1N1 vaccine. Her pain remains severe in the arm particularly. Her symptoms are classic for PTS and other causes appear very less likely based on w/u to date. MRI of plexus and neck all normal 2 weeks into symptoms. Minimal weekness yet. Interesting I beliew she had Swine flu months before her sho occurred. How atypical is it to have this degree of pain )9 out of 10 pain) three weeks after onset of symptoms. What else might you know about association with H1N1 vaccine.

Thanks, tom

Dear Dr Devlin,
Since you are a Neurologist, you are very much aware about this syndrome. It's known to cause severe arm pain/shoulder pain and is a known inflammatory condition. It's also called as "Acute Brachial Neuropathy"
So her pain in the arm is consistent with the diagnosis. It's good that the weakness is minimal.
I don't have much idea about the H1N1 association and this syndrome, but since its inflammatory condition, viral association may result is arthtritis/flare up of the condition.
All i can say is that, and i presume you also know, prognosis is good.
Regards....

I had my H1N1 vaccination on Oct. 26, 2009.  My arm pain began the next day.  The pain is 24/7 and I have limited use of my right arm where the vaccine shot was given.  If I accidentally turn my arm quickly in a motion that my arm finds incorrect the pain is totally excruciating - like my arm is being torn from my body.  Dressing is difficult as well as most everything.  What specifically went wrong and what is the remedy?
