2 year old with bad seizures - went Code Blue today...please help

My 2 year old son has been having seizures since he was 6 months old.  They have worse over time. Today I took him into the hospital (his dr's office was not open today) for swollen tonsils to get meds in him before the illness got worse as his seizures get worse when he is sick.  While waiting on discharge papers he went into what started to be a petit mal seizure (they always start like this) then like usual he remained stiff, turned VERY blue and was not breathing at all or even trying to . The nurse called code blue on him as his heart rate was dropping fast.  It was like I was watching my son die before my eyes. He was unresponsive for over 3 minutes before he took his first weak breath. He was transported to the childrens hospital in winston salem where he was evaluated by a new neurolgist and finally placed on seizure meds. They started him on depakote sprinkles 125 mg 3x's a day and we are to go up to 250mg 3x's a day next week.
I am looking for anyone who can shed some light on what kind of seizure or seizures he is having. The neurologist says that she thinks he is having more than one kind at the time but is not sure what kind.

MRI, EEG and EKG were normal. The meds seem to be working. He had a small seizure this morning that appeared to be an absence seizure. He stared blankly for a few seconds, his head was shaking back and forth and his arms drew up, but he recovered quickly.  If he has to have seizures I would prefer these over the terrible ones hes had for so long now.

Hi.

I'm sorry to learn what happened.  Your son may be really be having a seizure disorder of unknown etiology.  Most seizure disorders have indeed no identifiable cause, and they are just classified according to presentation, and the treatment is tailored according to these classifications as well.

Your son may have different kinds of seizures, but a thorough search for a cause should be sought (like EEG, MRI, etc).  There are specific drugs effective for each type of seizure and I'm sure his neurologists are doing the best they could.

I hope and pray that he'll be OK.  Regards.
