Dizziness and blackouts

Hello,
I am hoping someone could answer this question for me. I am 21 years old and since I was about 13 Ive been having dizzy spells. They last no longer than 7 seconds and during the time it happens I have to stop what I am doing because my vision blacks out and I get extremely dizzy. When it first starts out my vision blacks out slowly and when it comes back it does slowly also and i get a pounding sensation in my head for about 5 seconds and everything is fine again. Recently this has been happening at least once a day. A couple months ago this happend and I actually fell on the ground and it lasted for about 15 seconds and when i finally came to, I had a ringing in my ears and it felt like i had earplugs in and I couldn't hear anything and i also couldn't really breathe. I found out that this happens a lot when I eat things like bread, bagels and pasta. But it also happens when I eating other foods and even when i am not eating at all. If someone has any suggestions on what could be happening here that would be great! I would like to find out if this is something serious because I do not have health insurance right now. Thank you.

Forgot to add that my Father once had a heart murmur. He had surgery to get that taken care of. But I was just looking up arrhythmia, and thought this information could be useful. I just want to inform the doctor as much of what I know as possible when I go. I have tried to get this checked out a couple of years ago and no one could figure out what was happening. Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. I will definitely get the EEG and EKG done. From what I know, I do not have a family history of seizures or birth anoxia. I will definitely ask my family. Do you think that maybe it could be Hypoglecemia or maybe some sort of Allergy because it happens alot when I eat food? Or maybe some sort of thyroid condition? Thanks for your help!  -EML1187

Hi, please get EEG done to rule out seizure disorder as this could be absence seizure. Other possibility is arrhythmia for which EKG is diagnostic. Do you have family history of seizures or history of birth anoxia?
