I have the exact problem, mainly on highways. Somtimes I force myself off the highway, wait for a few minutes to calm down. Its very frightening and also don't know what causes it. I sit in fron of a computer about 8 hours a day, I drink two coffees a day, I am not asmoker and I am a social drinker. I do not have this problem when someone else is driving.
It happende to me in a tunnel recently and it was a horryfying experience. I do not go through the tunnel anymore.
Tried recently to drive on a highway but has to stop at least 3 times.
Don't know what to do. If you ever find out anything that might help, please email me at ***@****. Thanks.
A few episodes of a similar feeling like some have described here, like being alert to realizing that my reaction time was too prolonged (while driving only on the freeway), happened to me some time ago. In retrospect I realize that just prior to the onset of those episodes, I had started having cinnamon with my food, based on reports that it would reduce appetite. Cinnamon apparently increases the body's sensitivity to insulin, and can lower the blood sugar. Low blood sugar would likely explain that feeling of "dizziness"/ slow reaction time that would only be detectable while driving on the freeway and not with regular street driving. During the weeks when I had the episodes, I realized if I had had my breakfast too late prior to getting on the freeway in the morning, the same feeling would be exaggerated- which would then lead to extreme sudden anxiety/"panic attack" from feeling not in control. These later all resolved completely, but I had googled my symptoms back then and that's how I found out about this site. So, if you are sprinkling large amounts of cinnamon on your food, stop and check your blood sugars; and make sure you are eating well a couple hours before getting on the freeway. Avoid stress, get good sleep; eat protein every couple hours; and get a complete check up, including to make sure you do not have arrhythmia or irregular heart rate, or other causes of dizziness...

What you posted is very similar to me, but I haven't been in any accidents. I was wondering if you have found anything helpful?
