Do your feet and hands change colours in extreme temperatures (cold or hot)?

I had a foot injury in Oct.2008 (sesnoide bone under foot/below big toe). The xray and MRI indicated fracture but the bone scan said no fracture. The injury got much better (I was able to wearing running shoes) in Mar 2009. I went on vacation, walked too much and have not recovered.
I have developped a constant swelling in my left foot. In the summer, when I take a hot shower or just when I wake up, my foot becomes red and swollen. It has evolved to the point that both my feet and hands have this condition. My injured foot is worse.

I live in a cold, winter climate and my feet turn purple as well. I have lost feeling in my left foot and it is becoming scary. Meds (to increase circulation) have aggravated the problem). RSD was ruled out as I had a nerve block which aggravated the problem. I have had all blood tests. Now the skin on my feet are tender and  my feet are throbbing. I have to bandage all of the irritated skin. I just want to be able to walk my dog again. Has anyone experienced this problem?

Thanks for your feedback. My case has baffled most doctors. I drink alot of water, eat a healthy diet and don't smoke or drink. The only meds I take are for my bones (Forteo) as I found out that I had extreme osteoporosis in Nov. 2008. I have had my circualtion checked several times and it is reduced in my "weaker" foot. There is no blockages and I have no rare diseases....

My problem is only becoming worse and noone knows why....

Usually, such discoloration are common with circulatory problems, with certain medications, excessive cold temperature, whilst you are relaxed or resting, during or after exercise, or after sitting in an uncomfortable position. Most of the times, they are not related to any underlying disorder but needs checking out with a doctor to assess that your leg circulation and nerve supply are working appropriately. Meanwhile, I would suggest eat a diet rich in fruit and vegetables, vitamin E & zinc supplement, drink at least eight glasses of water in a day and avoid smoking. Hope this helps.
