Extreme Anger with Memory Loss

I am in great need of help.  My son has SEVERE anger fits (for lack of words).  He has had these since he was about 2 years old.  He is currently 20. He goes into an uncontrollable rage, not caring who he hurts or what he does and then later when you tell him what he has done, he doesn't remember.  We couldn't understand how come he could tell someone he wanted to kill them and then come home later like nothing had happened until I confronted him about not coming home until he appologized but he had no idea what he had said or done during this rage.  He can be the greatest and all of a sudden something sets him off and he is uncontrollable.  Does anyone have an idea what this is called or caused from?????  He has currently been put in jail for fighting.  I haven't been able to talk to him but I am sure he doesn't remember?    This mom needs your help!

I remember having tirades when I was preteen.  But this behavior continued until my 30's.  In many cases, the tirades would be accompanied by memory loss.  I wouldn't have remembered anything I said or even did.  At 34, the Lord gave me an answer.  I was experiencing severe reaction to gluten.  I have been gluten free for 13 years now.  No more memory loss or tirades.  Yay!  Hope this helps.

I had an uncontrollable temper myself for many, many years.  Something or someone would set me off and I would go in a rage.  Screaming and in some cases hitting.  I wouldn't remember most or in some cases any of the tirade.  Flash forward to the age of 34.  I am looking for some answers to my granddaughter's problems.  I pray about it.  Later that same day I am in the grocery store.  The food in his basket was odd.  So I asked him about it.  He had celiac disease.  I asked him a few more questions and then went home.  I put my granddaughter and myself on a gluten free diet.  My emotions smoothed out.  I haven't had any more tirades.  That was 13 years ago.  The change has been permanent.  Gluten free is the way to go..

Hi, umm... i've recently had one of these episodes. i was in an argument and suddenly i'm screaming and have no clue what i said. the things that i said were unbelievable and stuff that i would have never said in my right mind. all i remember is seeing blurry and then afterward slightly dizzy.
this has happened to me again, but this time i was able to control myself somewhat and stopped as soon as i started seeing blurry.
i know this isn't what you are looking for, but i just needed to know if this is what your son is feeling, and if so have you guys found some sort of solution
              thank you

Well, I suppose there's a possibility he has some form of seizure activity going on, particularly since this began in early childhood, and also because he says he doesn't remember what happened.  Altho it's also possible he is simply quite frustrated and doesn't know how to deal with it, and those people can lose it so seriously that they have trouble remembering the details of the situation, altho they wouldn't forget its entirety.

I have to assume you took him to a pediatric neurologist early on, but in any case, he needs to see a neurologist again, please make an appointment with one right away.  There are good medicines to treat the many different kinds of seizures, and also the doc needs to determine the origin of them in case it's a bleed or growth, or conceivably a vitamin or mineral deficit, or whatever.  If the neuro doesn't find anything, get a second opinion.  Then a psychiatrist is the next stop, he can teach your son how to vent and/or control his rages in a nonviolent way and also give him medicine to keep him calmer whilst this is straightened out.  Hope this helps a little, let us know how things go.
