Feeling inbalance, unsteadiness, and dizziness

My name is sudhir kumar and currently working as a software engineer in CTS Bangalore. From the last one year i am feeling inbalance, unsteadiness, light dizzeness mainly while i am walking or moving from one place to another. Initially i consulted with the neurologist in bangalore. By seeing the physical activity test, he told me that i don't have any neuro defect. He told me to consult with the psychristic. I consulted with the psychristic. He advised me to take cipralex for one and half month. After taking the cipralex too i feels the same sympton. For that i once again consulted with the other neurophysician in bangalore. He advised me for doing the MRI Scan. The result of the MRI saying "Mild ectopia of cerebellar tonsils. The tips of the tonsil is 5mm below the formen magnum. No mass effect is seen on the Brain stem. Mild chiari-I malformation". After seeing the report by neurophysician and neuorosurgeon, doctor advise me to take stugeron-25mg tablet. He told me that it won't effect you. Since it may be from the born only. But after taking these medicine also i feels the same. Kindly advise me on that.

Thanks

Hello Mr Sudhir.

You have to consider your clinical situation. You are having the symptoms due to the cerebral tonsils coming out of the foramen. They are not supposed to come out of the skull cavity.

Now, what does this do to the brain ? If you read the MRI report, they must have mentioned some block of CSF flow across the foramen. If not, there are chances in future that this will happen. What it means is that the Cerebrospinal fluid will have problems with circulation. The pressure inside the skull cavity increases. These events are expected to happen. It may not happen for a long time.

Since you have mild Chiari I malformation, the clinical symptoms are due to pressure on some parts of the cerebellum, which is concerned with balance and equilibrium.

There is no role of Cipralex, unless you are going through depression and anxiety which you can not manage on your own.

Please let me know if you have any more queries.

Regards

I have been taking Cipralex for the last two months and I am having the same symptoms. I have just been to see my Neurologist and says that I must increase my dose to 1 and a half (15mg) to 2 x tabs (20mg) daily.

Any feed back or suggestions?

Thanks
Garrie
