Help!! Left arm and hand tingling and weak

Hello!!! I am hoping someone can ease some increasing anxiety that I am having.  I am 38 years old, I am a nurse in a nursing home and for the past 3 nights I have experienced weakness and a tingling, kind of numbness in my hand. When I rest my elbow on the desk, I feel a nerve "shooting" into my hand. The load at my work has increased, and the past 3 nights, I have done a lot of writing at my job, more than normal. There is no swelling, and no pain other then an aching feeling.
My mother had Multiple Sclerosis, and I am terrified of seeing a doctor for this reason. A co-worker mentioned it's possible Carpal Tunnel.

I need some advice on what I should do, PLEASE!!!!

Hi, I am new to this site. Just recently I started having some pain in my ring and middle finger of my left arm that would wake me up in the night and by just changing the position of my arm pain would subside..and this happens only when I am sleeping.
I also noticed my left outer ear was also very tender so I decided to check on the web to see what this could be and found there are thousands of people with similar problem..which Drs. call it as corporal tunnel syndrome and the only treatment that is recommended is surgery..
I usually do not accept surgery readily.  I am a strong believer in acupressure and deep breathing exercises. So I decided to look into that and guess what!  just by doing acupressure my pain has disappeared..The pain I was having in my ear was related to the fingers pain according to "Ear Acupressure" Ear is a miniature representation of the human embryo. All the points of the body are on the ear (imagine the embryos position in our ear with the head towards the ear lobe) I just pressed the point on the ear where it was tender until the pain subsided (2-5 min., 2-3 times a day and pain gone in couple of days!!) This is the reason I thought since it worked like magic for me I wanted to share with everybody!! TRY IT THERE ARE NO SIDE EFFECTS AND YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SPEND A DIME YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF. GO ON THE WEB GOOGLE ACUPRESSURE AND THERE IS ALL KINDS OF INFORMATION AVAILABLE!!
Just a brief description here of how it works!
Modern medical treatment relies on the assumption that the human body is composed of separate, independent pieces and not of an indivisible unit. on the other hand traditional therapists regard the human body as one indivisible unit.if specific points on the body-surface are methodically pressed, the internal organs of the body corresponding to these points are swiftly affected and the diseases or disorders of those organs are eliminated.
Our life relies on the  bio-electricity (energy) that exists in our body. It is only because of the existence of this energy that we can move, breathe, digest food or think. This bio-energy is composed of two kinds of forces. Negative and Positive forces. A person remains in good health if there is coordination, harmony and balance between these two forces. These forces flow through definite courses or channels in the body. These channels have connection with the main organs of the body. one end of each channel lies in the hand, the leg or the face and the other in one main organ. That is the reason why pressure applied to a particular point on the hand or the leg, effects the remote organ connected with this point. If an organ of the body is diseased, pain is experienced in the points of the channel connected with that organ. A disease is eliminated by applying pressure on the painful points. Pain in the points is relieved as soon as the disease is eliminated. Pain on any point on the body is possibly a symptom of some disorder in an organ or in a system of the body.
Currently, ear- acupressure has been developed in which the organs of the body are treated by stimulating points on the ear. Ear is a miniature representation of the human embryo.
There is lot of acupressure information available on the web so let the MOUSE WALK!!

Hi, which fingers are involved in numbness? If it is little and ring finger, probably it is ulnar nerve entrapment and if it is in rest of the fingers, probably it is median nerve related with carpal tunnel syndrome.

As you have mentioned elbow rest causes pain, this happens due to compression of ulnar nerve which passes through elbow joint. “Compression at the elbow, known as cubital tunnel syndrome, causes numbness in the small finger, half of the ring finger, and the back half of the hand over the small finger. Initially, the numbness is transient and usually occurs in the middle of the night or in the morning. Some cases may be prevented by good posture and proper use of the elbow and arms, such as sleeping with the arm straight at the elbow instead of keeping it tightly bent, or keeping the head properly centered over the cervical spine instead of slouching”.
Taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulnar_nerve_entrapment

Treatment involves pain killers, cold compressions, physiotherapy etc.
