I am also having trouble sleeping, when I try to go to sleep when I'm almost asleep I suddenly jump up and get the feeling that I was about to have a seizure. This also affects my mood and sleep pattern which can make me have the feelings even more.
Hi thanks for your help,
Is it possible to have two different types of epilepsy ?
I've had a few EEGs and one MRI, all results came back normal.
I've also been experiencing really awful thoughts to do with epilepsy, like parinoia but really vivid imaginations.......... I know it sounds stupid and like I'm probably overreacting, but these thoughts just pop up out of no where and feels like my mind is just racing thinking of things. For example, I'm in the car with my dad driving and then suddenly I'll imagine having a fit and he tries to help me and then we have a huge car crash, and I can see it play out in my head, It's really starting to freak me out!!
Do you think it could be the lamotrigine making this happen?
Again thanks for your help.
Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with a doctor.
Without the ability to examine and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of the symptoms is. However I will try to provide you with some useful information.
It is possible to have two different seizure types. Some people may have a focal seizure which may then secondarily generalize into a grand mal seizure. Others may have multiple foci for seizures, but this is less common.
The majority of seizures can be effectively managed with medication. If you are on a medicine and it is maxed out, another medication can be added. Once you have failed (either by not being controlled or not tolerating the medication) several medications, epilepsy surgery may be an option. This ultimately depends on the etiology of your seizure and seizure onset location. Have you had a seizure workup including an MRI of your brain?
You should continue working with your neurologist. It sounds like your seizures are fairly well controlled on the lamotrigine, but you may still be experiencing auras (i.e,. the tingling sensation), which may or may not be further treated.
Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.
