Very brief severe head pains could represent a form of cluster headache. These headaches typically occur in men and occur at typical times during the day. Most people report that these headaches begin after going to sleep and wake them up. People will report tearing, runny nose, or nasal fullness with these headaches. Aneurysms and brain tumors typically do not present as very brief headaches. Plus the normal MRI from two years ago did not show a mass.
What I recommend is that you see a neurolgosit and if you have already seen one, then a neurologist who specializes in headache. If you are in the area we have an excellent headache center. Otherwise you could call your regional academic center and make an appointment. Good luck.

I was headache free until 3 car accidents (all other drivers were at fault) in a 6 month period. The first accident was 4 years ago.
Since then, headaches have been severe at times. Shooting pains in head to sharp stabbing through eye and ears to just dull daily aching in temples and across the forehead. Sometimes my head feels like it wants to explode. Symptoms that come on about 30 minutes before the headache almost always begin with lots of tears coming from eyes, This is followed by cold shivers down one arm and in a thigh and include numb feeling in lips, tightness and tingling, numb feeling in arms and legs, then a loss of energy and fatigue (need to sleep). Headaches are sometimes felt after this process, but at other times none are felt.
A MRI of the brain also revealed small white leisons not typical of MS. MRI of spinal cord showed no signs of MS or demyliation. I have neurologists suggest MS, Lupus and demylinating disease as possibilities
A neurologist yesterday suggested these were symptoms of a silent migrane. A migrane that with these type of symptoms but at times, gives very little pain.
Has anyone else had similar symptoms or heard about this kind of migrane?
I get stabbing pains in my head also. Someone had mentioned something called an "icepick" migraine headache. But, my grandpa, Dad, and me have them a lot. I have epilepsy though, but these occur too. Don't feel alone out there.
Has your husband been to a neurologist for this? If not, that would be a good thing for him. I hope all gets better for him. God bless and best wishes...Chaddy
I too have the sympton of shooting pain behind the left eye and radiating from there. It lasts approximately 10 to 30 seconds and is quite severe. The pain is a scary, almost uncontrollable pain. It periodically wakes me up multiple times throughout the night. Then, it will go into remission only to reappear a month or two later. My neurologist has diagnosed it as trigeminal neuralgia. There are a number of drugs the neurologist can prescribe to control this pain. They include neurontin, tegretol, trileptol, and/or darvocet. The medication I have found to best control sudden onsets lasting throughout the night is darvocet. A cocktail of the others can control it with various levels of effectiveness. I'd see a neurologist soonest to receive medication to control what, otherwise for me, is a very scary pain. Also, you might discuss with the neurologist the possibility of some cranial lesion as the culprit.
I also have recently started experiecing sharp head pains they travel either into my ear or eye ,mostly my temple area , it is very scary. today I experienced on that made me dizzy and kind of naucious. This really scares me cause I am a mom of three children and I do alot of running them in the car my oldest is 13 and my youngest 17 months . I hope you feel better. God Bless
About 4 days ago I started getting shooting pains, like electric shocks in my ear.I can also feel it in my temple at times, also behind my eye.The pain is extremely severe.I went to the doctor, and he referred me to a neurologist, asap. The appt. is 3 days from now and I'm driving myself crazy trying to diagnos my problem. The pain is so intense for a second or 2 I twitch, or tense up on the upper right side of my body.It does not respond to any sensitivities;light, sound, cold, hot.I was wondering if anyone could relate in any way.
