IV in wrist

I had an iv on 2/11/08.Ok my hand still hurts.I can't use it because of the pain.My forefinger and thumb nuckle ache.the pain runs up my forearm.Will this be permanent?

Hello.

It appears that there is a nerve injury. Nerve injuries due to IV needle can be severe. It depends upon the size and the force with which the needle was inserted. If the nerve is injured slightly, which appears to be so in your case, the recovery will take some time, but you will eventually recover from it.

The injured nerve takes time to heal. There is a protective sheath, called myelin sheath, which may have been damaged. Take some multivitamin supplements. It will help in the recovery process.

I've had 3 wrist IV's in the past few weeks (don't they hurt like the devil?!), I'm a very difficult stick, I've had no problems other than the bruising for a few days...maybe an nerve was struck during the administration of the IV??...good luck.
