Hi.

The treatment for an nerve impingement or compression would depend on the severity of the possible cause of the injury, such as a disc herniation or degenerative disc disease.

Usually, for mild to moderate cases, conservative treatment is given. This includes intake of over-the-counter pain medications and physical therapy to strenghten the muscles that support the spine. Heat therapy, massage therapy, and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation has also been shown to be beneficial for conditions such as this. Surgery is only indicated for cases of severe symptoms or if there is serious impending sequelae such as paralysis if the condition is left untreated.

Hope this helps.

Hi.

ANF is anti-nuclear factor and the test for it is done to check for the possible presence of autoimmune disorders such as systemic lupus erythematosus. Although a positive ANF test result may suggest an autoimmune disease, further specific tests are required to assist in identifying the specific autoimmune disease present. According to your doctor, the ANF is normal so there is no indication that your wife's condition is due to an autoimmune disease.

The symptoms your wife is experiencing can possibly be caused by nerve impingement or compression, probably at the cervical spine level, thus leading to arm pain and tingling fingers.

You should bring your wife to consult a neurologist to determine if an impinged nerve is indeed the cause of her condition.

Good luck.
