Mini seizures

Hi There, My husband (38) who is epileptic has now been suffering from what i call  mini blackouts 1-2 times a week. He takes Epanutin tablets one 300mg per day and hasn't suffered from a full blown seizure in more than 7 years.
He was driving one day though and had a mini blackout. It was like his vision was blurred. I took control of the steering wheel and guided the car into the hard shoulder, he was trying to slow down and brake but this seemed to take ages, he knew what he had to do but body wasn't responding quick enough, afterwards he had no memory of what happened. This episode terrified me and i would love to know what form of epilepsy this is and how can we prevent it?
In his other blackouts he is aware he is having one and will remember having it afterwards
I can tell he is having one immediately by a a very subtle change in his lip movement. He would normally lick his lip or gum They usually only last a few seconds, He can hear me talking and understands the questions and can nod his head or answer me, but again it seems his vision does be a little blurred or distorted
Has anyone else experienced these also? and any advice on how to prevent them please

Hi flipper336
Thanks for your reply.I really appreciate your answer.
He will go to the doctor tomorrow and hopefully get new medication to control these.

Molly,
It kind of sounds like he is having Absence seizures. When I have one I will like stare off into space and my hand would move like I am counting on my fingers.
I believe it would be best to have him go back to the neurologist and talk about everything that is happening. He might need to have another type of seizure medicine added onto what he is already taking.
