My granddaughter has begun to have twitches

My 9 yeare old grandaughter started out with a twitch that was only the side of her face and mouth. She had a MRI and it was clear. Now she twitches her head, shoulder and face ( right side). She twitches so hard that her ear hurts her. I am so worried about her but the doctors don't seem concerned. She tries to stop but that causes a terrible headache. I tell her not to try to stop.  I massaged her shoulders and neck and it felt good to her but the twitches continued even while I was doing it. Please let me know what you think.

Magnesium deficiency can cause muscle twitching and involuntary muscle contractions (clonus).

This article, "The Importance of Magnesium to Human Nutrition," by Michael Schachter M.D., is very informative.

(If the url is removed, you can google for the name of the article and the author.)

It's also possible that your granddaughter's twitching is a tic, in which case the magnesium will also be helpful.

Wishing you the best,
Carol

Hello Dear,
You should consult a neurologist and go in for EEG tests to know the electrical activity of the brain. Also a CT scan should be done to know any pathology.Unless all the neurological investigations are done, the diagnosis cannot be confirmed.
