How long would one have to have lack of oxygen for brain damage to occur

I recently had a minor procedure done using a sedative not general anethsia. The anethsesioligist was the same as the Dr. doing the pain management procedure. They administered too much of the sedative even though they had done this procedure four prior times. They told me I stopped breathing for up to one minute. Is it possible that any damage could occur and should I have an evaluation done by a nuerologist asap?

One minute without O2 shouldn't cause brain damage.  You may want to see a neuro, but really just for peace of mind.

Hi,

Time is critical for patients who stop breathing. If brain is deprived of oxygen for 4-6 minutes, brain damage is likely to occur. In your case, although the chances of permanent brain damage are less, it's always better to get an opinion of a neurologist.
