Need Help!!!

Hi,

Would be of great help if anyone can throw some light into this.

My wife recently delivered a baby girl. On the 13th day after delivery she had very strong convulsions and collapsed at home. She was admitted to the hospital and an MRI was done. Docs diagnosed her problem as "LEFT PARIETO OCCIPITAL CORTICAL VENOUS SINUS THROMBOSIS". She was in the hospital for about 10 days and now back home. Doc has prescribed Acitrom (1mg), Levipil (500mg) and Epsolin. She undergoes PT test every 5 days, based on the result, the doc increases or decreases the dosage. She is leading a normal life, albeit a slight complaint of dizziness, which the doc said its normal while taking Acitrom.

My questions are

1) How long will she have to continue taking Acitrom?

2) During this period, is it advicable to breast feed the baby?

3) Will this situation occur again, or will it go away with medicines?

4) Any reasons as to why this happened?

I request someone in this forum to help me with the answers, so that I can breathe a lot better.

Thanks & regards
Ajith

Hi,

Cortical venous thrombosis occurs due to stagnation of blood and in women one the identifiable causes are use of oral contraceptive, dehydration, pregnancy and lactation. In some cases there are no predisposing factors.
The prognosis is somewhat better for venous thrombosis as compared to an arterial one.

Many drugs are secreted in breast milk and acitrom is known to be one of them. It is advisable not to breast feed the baby as long as your wife is on acitrom. I would also advise you to discuss this with her obstetrician as well.
