Pain in left hip, and down left leg.

The only way to describe this pain is, it feels like a tooth ache pain in my left hip, and the pain also, shoots down my leg causing my knee to fold up under me. My doctor sent me for a MRI of my lumbar spin, and I have the report, however, I do not understand how the results figure into the problem I am having. Can someone explain these results? Please.

Lumbar alignment is within normal limits without compression fracture, subluxation or vertebral body marrow lesion. Vertebral body heights are maintained. Disc heights are decreased in the mid lumbar spine. The conus terminates at the L1 level and five lumbar type vertebral bodies are assumed. No abnormality of paraspinous musculature is identified. There is no spinal stenosis at any lumbar level.

T11/12: 1 to 2 mm disc bulge.

T12/L1: Intact.

L1/2: Intact.

L2/3: 2 mm disc bulge, mild disc height loss and early facet arthritis.

L3/4: 3 mm disc bulge, mild disc height loss and early facet arthritis. Mild left neural foraminal narrowing.

L4/5: 3 mm disc bulge, mild disc height loss, facet arthritis and mild bilateral neural foraminal narrowing.

L5/S1: 3 mm disc bulge and endplate spurring. Mild bilateral neural foraminal narrowing.

These descriptions from my limited knowledge would cause the symptoms you describe. I have low back pain with numbness down my left leg as you describe and L3,4,5 are all herniated, bulging or have arthritis or something. I had all the xrays and talked to Bone doctors. They all prescribed oxy or codeine related pain killers. None of which I would consider taking. They also prescribed physical therapy which my insurance does not cover. The only thing that I have found that helps believe it or not is yoga. Trust me, I did not think it would do a thing either. I also do chiropractic(a chiro that specializes in Neurology) when I can afford it, and advil. That is it and it has taken a while but I am finally out of pain. Best of luck to you.
