Someone please read and post DOCTORS? Scared for my child.

Hello, My daughter age ten had what we think to be a seizure on thursday. No doctors were open i spoke to on call and am making an appt for her come mon. But heres the ?. She had been playing her nintendo ds for an hour or so then watched some tv for 15-45 minutes. She then went up stairs and talked and joked with her grandfather. He had jammed his finger and it was bleeding. SHE HAS NO PROBLEMS WITH BLOOD! She was sitting. She stood, and flopped back in the chair, and shook for 10 or so seconds.Shes never had anything like this. No history of seizures on her dads side. On my fathers side her grandfathers our great great uncle may have had them. Felt tired afterward and didnt remember what happened. Felt fine later that night. Claims had a headache and tummyache right before the incident. PLease tell me did she have a seizure?

Hello.

I hope the episode was not a seizure. But I would like you to consider the possibility of "photosensitive seizure".

You might want to read this article -

http://www.aston.ac.uk/about/news/releases/2004/april/040423.jsp

And even in the PubMed, which is a good online database of journals and article, I found an article on this. The link is a bit long. You can also go to pubmed.com and search using the keywords "nintendo" and "seizure".

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10487177?ordinalpos=1&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVLinkOut

The purpose of my comment is to make sure you are alert and have this differential in mind when the EEG results come back. I would ask the EEG technician to give photic stimulation and look for any activity on the graph.

Wish you luck. All the history is pretty much against a seizure.

Thank you all for replying to me. I took her to the doctors on Tues. He beleives she has a Vasovagal Event. In which the stress of seeing my dad bleeding fro his finger caused a syncope on her system. Which i can understand. We have a EEG scheduled for 7-16 the coming Wed, and that to rule out anything more. Hopefully we will get an all clear. Wish us luck. Thanks Chrystal.

Hi
If anything even CLOSE to this happens to your daughter again before Monday, please take her directly to the ER....
I am glad that she is acting 'fine', but she was also "fine" before that episode on Thursday....
It sounds to me like you are watching her closely and that is very good....Let her get mad, that's your job to watch her, especially now....

Take care and I hope everything is fine with your daughter...

Hi,

I would take the child to the emergency and have her checked, it kind of sounds like seizure.  I have seen a kid have it before and it looked as you described, often after seizure there is no memory of it.  The doctor might want to have an MRI done on her head to make sure everything is ok.
Keep me posted on the doctors visit and Good Luck I hope the child is ok and hopefully that's not what she had:)
