Interesting story.....I was diagnosed with ADD and was on Adderall for almost 2 years. After about 6 months I started getting strange symptoms and existing unexplained symptoms that I had before were amplifed or stimulated. I suffered from joint muscle pain, extreme fatigue, extreme pain on the right side of my face/right temple/cheek/nose area and subsequently devolped a perforated nasal septum. After many doctors there was no conclusive reason as to why I was suffering these symptoms I still felt better in many ways than I had my entire life..but these symptoms were getting worse.
Well long story short and I got yanked off the meds because they said it looks like the Adderall induced some sort of vasculits (despite negative tests). When they took me off my health has declined terribly and I'm sicker than I've ever been. When I was taken off the meds a pressure began to build in my head and neck that I had previously (it was an intermittent problem) but now it was relentless. 10 emergency room visits, several misdiagnosed psychiatirc illnesses (bipolar/somatization disorder) and now docs are questioning the ADD diagnosis from the start. It's clear that something has changed in the brain and it's affecting the entire body. I can barely move from bed all day and the pressure in my head can create a myriad of symptoms...extreme fatigue is a norm.
I believe that the Adderall stimulated an already existing problem I had which they ignored for many years. I had not felt better Adderall and when off it I never felt worse. It does not make sense that one gets SICKER after being taken off Adderall. Question is...are Doctors missing something?? Are ADHD symptoms really another medical issue and when treating with stimulants it HELPS but when stopping it creates more subsequent damage than prior to the administration.
There are a lot of unknowns here......
I have experienced about 90% of your issues at hand.I am extremely frustrated----ADDERALL has destroyed my life!!!!! I have not given up on regaining my life back!!!!
This is insane. I'm experiencing the exact same thing, I've been convinced I've got multiple sclerosis all week, horrifying sudden onset of crippling weakness and muscle pain, worse in the morning improving slightly throughout the day. I can barely write using a pencil and it's all I can do to make it legible.
I only take adderall rarely but have taken it many times in the past it just seems to have triggered some strange autoimmune response this time--I've got low WBC count and elevated reactive Lymphocytes on a CBC-- I've been getting better over the last week but improvement has really tapered off the last few days. The only way I came to seriously suspect the adderall is from a sudden improvement in symptoms the first time I've taken it again since this started..
I know this is an old post but has anyone found out any more about this??
Drugs that activate the sympathetic nervous system (amphetamine, large amounts of caffine etc) exacerbate vasoconstriction (ie narrowing of blood vessels.) You were not receiving adequate oxygen supply to tissues because of your hypertension (high blood pressure) and now those tissues are damaged (some tissues can regenerate and in others it will be permanent.) Healthy diet, exercise, sleep, drink lots of water. Try to keep your blood pressure normal. This will help.
