Benign muscle twitching

I would like to know would Folic Acid B-6, B-12 as well as Magnesium and B-12 vitamins would be beneficial for muscle twitching.I am asking because I have been experiencing muscle twitching for the past 2 years and I haven't used anything since it started because i didn't think that it would last this long I thought it was something that come and go. However i been to the neurologist in Jan 2009 and was seeing them for about a year labs, test results all came out fine no vitamin deficiency no problems with the brain everything seems to be normal and they told me that my muscle twitching is benign and it should go away soon. But it haven't so I decided to take some vitamins to see if there is any improvement. I started the vitamins on Tuesday 4/12/2011. I been twitching ever since September 2009. If it is not a diet deficiency will the vitamins still work for my twitching what else can be done advice please.

Hi I have a question about dietary supplements are they used to treat certain conditions. I have been experiencing muscle twitching for almost 2 years now and I just started taking dietary supplements as of April12 2011.However I been to the neurologist in January2009 for labs, electrolytes, testing MRI, Cat Scan, MRI of the brain this all took place on January15 2009 and all was well. Since then I haven't had any new symptoms I just dealt with the muscle twitches and didn't take anything because the neurologist said that it was benign and I have nothing to worry about and if it gets worse or doesn't improve make an appointment to be seen. I just decided to purchase some vitamins to see if there's any improvement. I been taking Folic Acid b-6 b-12 as well as b-12 vitamin 1000mcg and Magnesium 250mg one tablet a day.I been under the neurologist care for about a year my last visit was October2010 and when I went I brought in all of my medications that I was taking before the twitching developed and when it was happening and the neurologist told me that it wasn't any of the medications and I know that medication can cause a side effect of muscle twitching but she said since I am no longer taking those medications I wouldn't have only if I was still taking them. I was taking prednisone for my breathing my lungs were bad and I was on advair I was told that I had asthma in 2008 I didn't want to believe it so i discontinued my medications in about 3 months and didn't tell the doctor two years later I went to The center for asthma and Allergy and my breathing was fine I knew I didn't need the medication to began with maybe I needed a lower dose and that was what the doctor gave me when I went back but I didn't take it. Also in 2008 I was using the morning after pill a couple of times to prevent pregnacy could that be a cause of the twitching. I am worried because this can turn into something serious because it haven't gone away. The pharmacist told me to give the supplements a week time if it doesn't go away then it is not from a diet deficiency and he also said I may need something stronger. What could be the cause of this and is it dealing with my nervous system. It started as eye twitching then it progress to my whole body it comes and go it feels like a vibration sometimes you can see it under the skin and lasts a few seconds and come back again but not right away it's like 20-30 minutes apart sometimes a little longer. It doesn't hurt or anything it's just quick brief spasm that come and go in different parts of my body when it comes in my neck it does rhythmic jerking vibrations like three times in a row it's really weird but I am used to it but it also worries me because I think that it could turn into something much more serious. advice as to what to do.

Hello I had labs done for electrolytes and everything seemed to be fine that was in January 2009. However I still have the twitching I am taking vitamin supplements now I am taking b-6 Folic acid b-12 magnesium and B-12 vitamin. I spoke with the pharmacist and explained my condition to him and he was glad to help me. He said that was the right thing for me to do with my twitching but he also said if it doesn't improved within in a week. It could be something more than a diet deficiency and if it is he said some neurologists give quinine for the muscle twitching. But it has been 3 days since I been taking my vitamins I still feel the twitching but it's lighter and lesser than before maybe it's working I hope so. Dr. Sharma if it is a diet deficiency why didn't it show up in the lab work I had done in January 2009.If it is something else like prescription drugs that I have taken in the past would it still affect me now I was taking advair in 2008 and stopped taking it could it be that I was on prednisone for breathing could it be that. I also was taking the morning after pill a couple of times to prevent pregnancy this all happened in 2008-2009 with the prescription drugs but not for prolonged periods of time. Could this be causing the muscle twitching.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi there. Muscle twitches are minor muscle contractions or uncontrollable twitching of a muscle group supplied by a single motor nerve fiber. The various causes are diet deficiency, drug overdose; drug side effects like diuretics, steroids, exercise, benign twitches usually affect eyelids, calf or thumb, triggered by stress and usually last for few days. Nervous system conditions that cause twitching are amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, muscle dystrophy. Usually there is no treatment necessary for benign muscle wasting. Consult a neurologist for certain blood tests to look for electrolytes, thyroid gland function and blood chemistry. Other tests might be required are electromyogram, nerve conduction velocity studies and MRI spine or brain. There have been reports of relief from mineral supplements like potassium or calcium, hot packs, botox injections, magnesium, calcium and potassium are required for neuromuscular function and muscle control.  B vitamins reduce stress triggered trembling by calming the nervous system. Hope this helps. Take care.
