Hi,
Thank you for responding on this, yes my daughter is on medication and she is actually seeing a neurologist but after when she got discharge from the hospital they want her to see another neurologist that specializes with white matter, and what if she has this " white matter thing " on her brain ...is this curable through medication or they have to do some sort of surgery to get rid of it ?
Hello,
Seizure disorders rarely start at birth. They usually start sometime later and may or may not be associated with structural changes in the brain. When the term white mater is used in reference to the nervous system, it means the part of the brain which is myelinated. Myelin is a fatty substance normally present in the brain and nerves and helps in proper functioning of the nerves and for proper propogation of nerve impulses.
If your doctor said that she has white hings in the brain, then he probably means that there are some spots of calcification. However, if he said that she has a white mater disease, then it means that the white mater is not proper and this leads to her seizures. Either of these things could start developing from the age of around 4-5 yrs.
I hope she is on medications and hope she recovers.
