Why need to see a neurologist?

ER doc refers me to a neurologist.  I went to ER because I have a black out while driving.  I got those symptoms 7 months ago.  I told my cardiologist but he didn't believe me.  I also have dizziness, light headed, blurred vision, migraine headache...  Like living inside the space ship.  The GP told me to live with it because all the tests were back with "normal".

Now because of the accident, the ER doc diagnosed me as having a TIA (Transient cerebral ischemic attack).  My CT brain, Ultra sound neck all came back normal.  I wonder why they refer me to a neurologist if my tests were all normal?

I wish someone could also tell me what the neurologist will do to me?  Are they going to run a heap of tests again?  What kind of tests that I likely to be facing to?

Thank you, Doctor.

I'll prepare a list and supporting documents for the visit.  Is TIA treadable or reversable?  How many methods can prevent it happens again?

Hi.

Transient ischemic attacks (TIA's) would not really manifest on the scans.  I believe that your doctor would like a neurologist consult to see if there are any other additional inputs or work-ups regarding your situation.  Other diagnoses may be considered by a neurologist that a primary care doctor is not capable or not well eqquiped to make.

The neurologist consult will start by the usual history taking and then a neurologic examination.  Based on that, he or she may request additional tests, or may just assess the previous tests already done.

It is recommended that you push through with this consult just to make sure nothing is left out.

Regards.
