absence seisures

i ve been having  what    ithink are  called absence seisures     at any given time, my eyes will    befilled with sparkles and   flashes almost as if  100 cameras    are going off at once in my eyes   , obviously i have to immediately stop wateve rimd oing and sit until it  passes  3  to 5 mins later, ido not lose conscienceness  but  sometimesi do  get disorientated  a nd have to remember exactly which part ofthe house i'm sitting  in    my dr   just too me off tegretol  and put  me on neurontin as  ive  been havingthese more frequent now. is neurontin better  then tegretol, i d like to hear   from others  experiencing the same thing

my neurologist didnt precribe it my "new        family   doctor  did a nd hetold me  thetegretol i wastaking forthemis    generaly a older med notas  good as  neurontin

i consulted my  opthamologistits no t a detatched  retina now im  worried whether my  'new"  doc     knows wat  he  isdoing as he toook meoff tegretol    and put me on this  new med

Hello.

The very fact that you are receiving Gabapentin (Neurontin) proves that your neurologist does not think you have absence seizures. Neurontin and other GABA potentiating drugs exacerbate absence seizures.

The visual phenomena that you have been experiencing could be migraine related or they could be related to retinal detachment. Please consult your ophthalmologist.
