based on my research sometimes certain symptoms of chiari can manifest at the same time. These symptoms can confused doctors and make them think you had a stroke. I have recently experienced this myself, until the ER doctor talked to my neurosurgeon.
I had a stroke DURING my decompression, but havent heard of someone having a stroke because they have chiari.
Hello.
There is no evidence which suggests stroke as a complication of decompression surgery for Chiari malformation.
But if there is a co-existent risk factor for stroke, such as hypertension, small vessel disease, thrombotic arteries or a risk of embolism from somewhere else, the surgery may act as a stress and may bring on the stroke.
