Sudden Numbness in right side

Four days ago, my 47-year-old sister, who is about 60 lbs. overweight, developed numbness from the middle of her right breast down to her right toe. The leg will bear no weight. She can feel if you ***** her with your fingernail, but she is othewide numb. She can lift it, and it immediately fall onto the bed.

She has no symptoms in her arms or hands. A CAT scan shows no abnormalities. She does have pain in her back. The hospital has released her and sent her home. She is perfectly normal, not feeling ill at all, but she can no longer walk with a walker, and she said two small spots on her left leg are beginning to feel numb.

If you have ever heard of such sypmtoms, please let me know. We are very concerned. Thank you.

In response to Johnny--yes. About six weeks before this happened she had flu-like symptoms but the doctor thought this was due to her breathing a poison gas bomb that she had put off in her house to kill insects.

It is difficult to provide an accurate diagnosis over the internet. Based on the information you have provided, I would suspect a problem within the lower cervical or thoracic cord. Perhaps an MRI of this region could be performed to evaluate for any abnormalities. I would encourage you to discuss this with her doctor. If the MRI is normal she may need to have further tests including a spinal fluid analysis. If there is no resolution of the symptoms you may wish to have a second opinion at an academic center. Good luck.

PRP
I would consult with an Orthopadic Surgeon and have an MRI done.  The fact that not only does this affect her leg, but stating that she has back pain is suspect.
