I thought I was the only one who had this problem with smells.  My spouse thinks I'm crazy that I can smell "burned-off gas" .  It isn't all the time, just occasionally.  I was wondering if this was a medical problem - will have to check with my doctor.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,
Dysosmia, or an altered sense of smell, is often caused by toxin exposure, physical irritant, or medication side effect. It may also result from a  structural or functional disorder of the olfactory bulb or olfactory system. The experience may be similar to an aura in which an "unpredictable" smell of a burnt substance occurs. Please consult an ENT specialist and a neurologist for diagnosis. MRI or CT scan of the head may be helpful in diagnosis. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
