Hello Prem.
The vertebra has collapsed. It remains to be seen if the vertebral body was broken or the disc between the vertebrae was crushed. When a vertebra collapses, it does so in either posterior.anterior, lateral or straight down in to the next vertebra. It the body is broken, the healing process may take up to 6 months. The precautions to be taken are sleeping on a relatively hard surface which won't hurt, avoiding awkward positions in sleep. Walking should be moderately done. There should be no undue jerks to the neck. A diet rich in protein will help a lot. If it affects his future is difficult to say at tis pint of time.

Thanks for your suggestions.
Dear Sir,
Presently we are consulting Sr. Professor Dr. S.M.Tuli, at Vimhans, at Delhi, as per his opinion after thorough checkup he suggested for “jewetti brass” for next two years along with medicine. So by the end of this week his brass will get ready,
Sir, we have notice that even though the vertebra collapse, still his activities are normal no sign of pain or any other symptoms.
We have few points to ask
1. Normally what happens in such cases, like how long it takes to develop that vertebra?
2. What type of precautions to take while sleeping, walking or traveling?
3. And what extra diet he needs.
4. Does it affect in future?
Sir pleases.
As you mentioned, we couldn’t find any physiotherapist in Faridabad. So we started moving to Delhi,
Thanks & regards

Hi.
Hope your son is better now.
The vertebral deformity will take its own time to heal. There can be visually obvious bulging seen on the back, if the vertebral collapse is not treated well. You will need a good physiotherapy and occupational therapy help for him. The vertebral bodies have become weak due to the TB infection. His back will need support. The physiotherapist will be able to advise you regarding back support.
The kyphosis may not last lifetime. We have numerous cases of children who had suffered from vertebral collapse. They either underwent corrective surgery or only medical treatment, and did well.
Please let me know about the follow up to this new doctor. Try to find out a physiotherapist in Faridabad. He may not be in a position to travel to Delhi every time.

Sir,
In continuity to above message I would like to inform that my son has no report of any pain and doing routine activates other than putting on weight
Thanks & regards
Prem
Sir,
Thanks for your suggestions
Sir, I would like to explain in details as earlier I was not clear myself,
Initially In the month of Aug 07 my son made complaint regarding some back pain, but we didn’t bothered much, after day or two that pain made him sleepless in night immediately we consult our pediatricians, there after he advised for X-ray in which shape of bones are suspicious, we immediately consult orthopidition Dr. Sanjay Nijhara at Toshi Orthopic Center, New Delhi., further he suggested for MRI Dorsal Spine
On 6th Sep 07 we took MRI
The MR report/ Opinion say’s: MRI findings are suggestive of partial collapse, destruction & signal alteration of D4 vertebra with involvement of the intervening D4-5 disc with pre and bilateral Para vertebral collection at D3 to D5 level with anterior epidural collection at D3 to D5 level resulting in moderate extramural compression with mediastinal lympadenopathy with other findings as described? Caries. Please correlate clinically/clinicopathologically
we have been told that he is with Spinal Cord TB in initial stage and need medication for next 9 to 12 months, and so followed the schedule of medicine , but after 5th month our pediatrician ask for MRI again,
This time the MR report/ Opinion say’s MR findings are suggestive of near complete collapse of D4 vertebral body with sharp kyphotic deformity and disruption of D3-D4 and D4-D5 intervertebral disc spaces.
When we ask for above pediatrician & orthopidition both referred to other Dr. (still we are unable to get appointment)
My question remains that how does it matters if vertebra collapse and if there is no development in future, or any other remedies
We are putting off at Faridabad, Haryana. Just border of New Delhi, as you asked.
Thanks & regards
Prem
Hello Prem.
Sorry to hear about your son. Tuberculosis does affect the vertebral column. A complete collapse has to be taken care of. He may develop problems with the curvature of the cervical spine. The collapsed vertebra may slid over and compress the spinal cord. I think he should wear a collar initially.
You should consult a Pediatric Neurologist for further management. Which part of India are you placed ?
