ilioinguinal neuralgia

My notes from MAPS pain clinic say ASSESSMENT:  ilioinguinal neuralgia.  I was put on Gabapentin and ibuprofen but was NEVER told this was the assessment.   Been in chronic pain for 5 years now, after a hysterectomy.  What is the best treatment.  Am on 2400mg Gabapentin and 60mg of Cymbalta, but don't really want to have to take this for life.

Thank you for your comment.  I had figured the nerve block would be the next option but just wasn't sure.

Hi there. Ilioinguinal neuralgia therapy involves general nerve block to provide analgesia. initially, simple analgesics, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, avoiding repetitive activities like squatting, sitting for long should be avoided. Next is ilioinguinal nerve block with local anesthetic and steroid.  Epidural steroids at T12/ L1 segments and low intensity laser therapy are other options. Consult a neurologist and a pain physician for best advice. Take care.
