My MRI says there is disc desiccation involving L4-L5 and L5-S1 disc. no focal herniated or significant bulging disc is seen.  There is no evidence of central spinal stenosis or encroachment upon neuroforamina.  But it also says that at disc levels L1-L2, there is a mild bulging with small focal central protrusion or herniated disc indenting anterior margin of thecal sac.  No evidence of central spinal stenosis or encroachment upon neuroforamina.   What does all this mean????

Hi,
Thanks for the update. Were you able to go back for the injections? Seeking another specialist's opinion may help ease any doubts. While management plan varies from one person to another, this often depends on the symptoms present, and results of diagnostic tests. Hope all is well. Take care and regards.

Hi,
How are you? A disc dessication is a degenerative condition that can be or become very painful. It is the earliest sign of a more severe disc degeneration while a spinal disc herniation is a medical condition  in which a tear in the outer, fibrous ring of an intervertebral disc allows the soft, central portion  to bulge out. This could be due to trauma, lifting injuries, or unknown causes. It is best that you discuss the result with your attending physician for proper evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
