Head tremors and balance problem

I have a head tremor and have some balance problems getting more frequent.  I am 50 and have had it for some time now.  (A few year)  It hasn't killed me so I try not to worry but it is bothersome.  I take xanax for anxiety and valium for sleep at low doses.  I feel like I have to walk with my head down.  Does this sound familiar to you?  Could it be neurological and that is what causes the anxiety?  Some advise would be nice.  I asked my doctor who feels they could be essential tremors but we have not pursued any testing.

Yes, thank you.  I was diagnosed with essential tremors.  I just hate the dizziness.   I also have colon issues myself.  They want to back me off my meds and add Primidone. It sucks.

I am 52.  I was diagnosed 2 years ago with the essential temors.  Yes, they are neurological.  My neurologist said they are inherited.  I usually fail the neurological tests of walking heel to toe with head down and arms out, the tremors will make your gait unsteady.  They also come out more when I am under stressed or having colon issues.  I also have a sagging right eye that acts up.  They can't really be treated.  So when I feel my head bopping more than usual I stay home those days.  Hope this helps with your questions.  Good luck I know it can be frustrating at times.
