Any vestibular rehab success stories? Im on my 11th session with no specific diagnosis. I had a lot of ear is on and noises from my ears, but my ears check out fine on all tests. Still feel like I just got off a merry go round for an hour or so after going into stores etc.
I have had vestibular therapy in several ways. I have a rare balance disorder and vestibular therapy doesn't really help me, especially not the standard vestibular therapy. In addition to the normal vestibular therapy, I have had Balance Master training, physical therapy on various equipment pieces, and aqua therapy. Walking is another good therapy if you have an assistive aid. Out of all of those, the Balance Master and aqua therapy helped me most.
Again, with the balance disorder I have, the benefit is not lasting etc. I have no warning I am going down, so I can't do some of the things that are recommended.
Hi.
Vestibular exercises are fairly effective for specific vestibular conditions and there are 5 main indications for this type of rehabilitation therapy.
- Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
- as general interventions for unilateral and bilateral vestibular loss
- those with fluctuating vestibular problems such as Meniere's syndrome or perilymphatic fistula
- as empirical treatment when diagnosis is unclear
- as psychogenic vertigo for desensitization
If there is no vestibular disorder, there would likely be no benefit. This could be seen in hypotension, some drug reactions, migraine associated vertigo, transient ischemic attack.
Hope this answers your query.
